Square Enix should remove the Steam requirement for VII and VIII

Posted

Square Enix should remove the Steam requirement for FINAL FANTASY VII and VIII. None of the other games on their online store require Steam.

do you not like steam or something? i get where you're coming from that it shouldn't "need" steam but i don't see a major problem with it either

I don't want any more software installed on my computer. And I've seen Steam, I don't like it. Plus I don't like gaming on computers as it is, I'd rather not install game software I'm not going to use.

Steam requires an internet connection to validate your games every 24 hours. So, if your internet goes kaplooie, when you want to play your games that you have downloaded from steam, it won't play. True offline gaming is all but gone now...

It's like EA with their games, but not as severe.

fair enough :)

Why does it matter anyway? Steam's free, and doesn't even take up too much space.

I've never had it do anything like that to me. :/

Because I don't like Steam. Space isn't an issue. My Ultrabook is amazing, I simply don't like to install software I don't need.

You'd only need it to install the game, then you never have to directly open Steam again. It automatically logs in, so all you'd need to do is launch the game from the icon.

I still find it useless.

Steam is kind of a must have these days if you are playing games on PC.

Well I don't play games on PC, and their other games don't require it.

Steam doesn't seem like that much of a problem.... :/

I agree with Black Star. Steam is free, so you aren't having to pay more or anything.

If you don't even play on PC, why are you complaining about it?

Because for VII and VIII the latest and greatest versions are the PC ones.

...Whatever helps you sleep at night.

But seriously, the 'best' version is solely dependent on the opinion of the individual player.

Hardly. The PlayStation One versions were released in the '90s. The PC versions have been updated and look better, and you don't have to worry about the silly disc change.

Don't you have a PSN? If so, why would you want FFVII and VIII on PC?

I have both the PSN (Through PSP) and PC versions of FFVII, and I've barely noticed any differences in how it runs. The PC version just looks a little smoother, it's not like it's HD or anything.

Actually the PC versions of VII and VIII run at 1080p and have improved character models especially in battle. Are you playing the PAL or NTSC version?

I'm playing the NTSC version. I haven't really noticed any differences, although that could be because I'm playing on a bigger screen now.

Yeah, the NTSC runs at 60Hz. PAL version runs at 50Hz.
