Playing Birth by Sleep on the PSP or Dream Drop Distance on the 3DS- works every time if you're smart about it

Breeding Pokemon like crazy to get a Pokemon with perfect IVs and a good nature and then get this perfect IV Pokemon and do some EV training with him

 

That takes a lot of time and patience

Recording Let's Plays, writing fanfictions (especially when you have writer's block...), working on avatars/signatures/thumbnails and other stuff
