You should always do as many sidequests that you can cause that is how you gain power ups and save souls

As someone who's done all the story quests, i definitely recommend doing some sidequests first. You have to micromanage in this game, you can't waste your time. If you have to wait until a certain time to continue a story quest, just do side quests in the meantime. Or start the story of ANOTHER story quest.

Just do the main quests for now. In the order of: Noel, Snow, Fang, Sazh, Caius.

if you have time to kill after finishing part of the main quest, start doing sidequests, but check the timer constantly, and use that time stopping magic that should last u a while.

remember, 3 real sec. = 1 in-game min.

I think I'll do one more side quest before progressing

Speaking of main quest order

Should I tackle Caius first?

No, do him last. He's the most powerful, and he doesn't get stronger unlike the rest.

Do the main quests first, do luxerion, yusnaan, dead dunes, wildlands. Trust me, caius is way easier if you do dead dunes first

NONONONONONONONONO. Caius is the strongest of the story bosses(not counting the final boss). Although, he doesnt get any stronger after Day 7, like the other bosses. DO HIM LAST.

So I should start with the weakest of them

Which judging from how the game started,I'm sure the Shadow Hunter is Noel

Doing side quests gives you the stat boosts you need, and Gil and (not necessary) accessories. Do them when you have the time, follow a guide online if you are stuck. I am almost done with all the side quests in Luxerion, they were pretty interesting.

NOTE: If you want more days, doing these side quests gives you more time. For example, saving souls makes you have an extra day. Its called Eradia.

I'd also see what items I can get from Side Quests. Garbs are extremely important and I've found that Purple Lightning can help with Snow and Reaver Extinctions.

I woud highly recommend getting the Angel of Valhalla in the Wildlands early on though.
