Sora & Ariel are... BFF?

Posted

I've actually had this thought for a while, but it wasn't until going through 1.5 and KH2 again that I really started to think that there might be a "special bond" between Sora and Ariel. Sure Sora becomes friends with pretty much every Disney character he meets, so what makes Ariel so special? Here are my points for thinking along this line:

-They are very close in age: Out of all Disney characters Sora interacts with, Ariel is arguably the closest to his age. While this doesn't guarantee friendship, for the vast majority of people it is easier to connect with others around your age, especially for those that are younger.
-Similar views of the world(s): Another unique characteristic they share is their fascination with the world outside of their respective homes. Granted, Sora does this on a grander scale, but they both have the desire to go out and explore the world beyond, while also cherishing their homes for what they are.
-Ariel knows the truth: Now this can be applied to the whole Atlantica crew, but Ariel is part of a small elite Disney group that not only knows that Sora is not of her world, but that there are countless worlds beyond her own (a secret that is supposedly to be upheld). Ariel knows an aspect of Sora that hundreds of people aren't even aware of, which means she can accept him more for who he is.
-Similar trains of thought: In CoM, when Sora mentions pegging the blame on Ursula, Ariel mentions that she was thinking the same thing, though she does not end up doing it. While this could be explained with this Ariel being a reflection of Sora's mind anyway, no other "memory character" seems to share Sora's thoughts.
-Sora the Secret Keeper: In KH2, before you see the cutscene of Eric's necklace getting stuck between the rocks, you can talk with Ariel in the main area. She tells Sora of the prince she rescued and how she has fallen for him, but to NOT TELL THE OTHERS. This shows that she even trust Sora over Donald or Goofy.

Now just to be clear: I DO NOT THINK THAT THERE IS A ROMANTIC RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN SORA AND ARIEL!!! She has Eric, and he has Kairi. All I am saying is that when compared to other Disney friends (and even some Square Enix friends), there seems to be a bit more depth in Sora's friendship with Ariel.

So what do you guys think? Do you think the writers did this on purpose? Is Disney behind this for some reason? Or am I just scraping at straws and going completely crazy?

Being the brains of the operation with your Yosuke avatar, I think you're over thinking this- but very interesting theory nonetheless xD

Well I can only admit that : I CAN'T BELIEVE I READ THE WHOLE THREAD . xD

I think you over-thought this.

You have DEFINITELY over-thought this man. xD

Especially since you've brought up the most annoying world in Kingdom Hearts history; Atlantica!

LOL thanks for confirming my craziness everyone!Oh well, can't blame a guy for trying to give Disney more importance in this series. On to the next theory...
