Nintendo eShop to sell SNES games?

Posted

Seriously, they've got NES games, they should have SNES games on it. And don't get me started on GBA and DS games.

Featured Replies

The eShop does have SNES games... on Wii U.

To be honest, I'd rather have new games on the 3DS instead of more virtual console ports that are available all over the place.

While I agree with GBA games (though I'm an ambassador and rarely touched the games they did give me) they don't need DS games as the machine is physically backwards compatible.

As for SNES games, like Yellow Flash pointed out, there's a nice selection on Wii U so the eShop does have them.

I would have said "Nintendo eShop for Wii U" if I was talking about it.

Doing virtual console games isn't hard especially when you've already got them on Wii U.

I think building classic video game libraries digitally is important. You know, to get all the classic games available on modern platforms without much work.

Both Wii and Wii U have SNES games on their virtual console. Buying most games in their original formats isn't expensive at all, either. Having them on 3DS would be nice, but I believe most people would prefer to have newer games instead of yet another port of a classic.

Why didn't you say Nintendo eShop for 3ds then? You never specified.

and While I like buying old games off of the virtual console and psn every now and again, I get a certain satisfaction by popping in that cartridge and playing it as it was meant to be played. Emulation, even if it is on a console and paid for, doesn't give you the same satisfaction as the original game does.

And while I would like to be able to play snes games on my 3ds, that screen is too small.

Because it's not called that.

The eShop on Wii U is just called the Nintendo eShop on there too.

And I won't spend $200 to get a bigger version of a system I already have.

It also encodes DS games better.

You could always trade your 3DS in.

I would only get $90-$100 for trading it in, and that would still leave a lot of spending to do. I don't even play the 3ds that much since I finished all of my games I wanted to finish, The only 3ds games I'm anticipating are Smash Bros 3ds and Theatrythm curtain call(if that even comes out overseas)

THEATRHYTHM Curtain Call will be released in English, don't worry.

I'm confused, what is the problem with having them on 3ds? It'd literally be the same thing as the Wii/Wii U VC, except portable (which is convenient and awesome).

also buying carts can get pretty expensive

When did I say it was a problem? I'd love to see them on 3DS, I just think that there are higher priorities. Also, most carts are cheaper than modern games.

Yeah I get what you are saying, but I don't think adding more to the 3ds VC would be too much trouble on their part. I'm not nintendo though sooo, yeah..

Exactly, it's easy money.

GBA are coming to the Wii U e-shop

SNES games are already on the Wii U e-shop for a while now and I don't know when will they come to the 3DS e-shop

3DS doesn't need DS games on the e-shop as it's already backward compatible  with any DS game

Yes, so GBA and SNES games can easily be released on the Nintendo eShop.

Ummm. You could say the same thing about PSOne games on PS3.

PSOne and Ps3 are a different story

newer models aren't compatible like the old one for reasons I don't know

I didn't say I don't purchase digitally as a ton of purchase I made on my Ps3 are digital but mostly retro games from Ps1 and Ps2 and some occasional PSP games that I can't find a physical copy for

That's PS2 you're thinking of. All PlayStation 3 models are backwards compatible with PSOne games.

I mean physical copies not downloadable ones

I never said it would be tough, just that most people would probably prefer new games over yet another port of old games.

Square Enix Japan have been recently releasing the FINAL FANTASY NES and SNES games on the 3DS and Wii U Virtual Consoles.

Uh... How does this even apply to what I said, anyway?

It means that there is clearly enough demand for classic NES and SNES games on Wii U and 3DS.
