Now, before I begin, let me quickly say that I realize that it is very improbable that there will be competitive multiplayer in KH3. In fact, it's probably impossible, but that doesn't mean I can't talk about the concept. Now, to begin, I think it would be a Seven lights vs. Thirteen darknesses mode, which you unlock after beating the game. Each character would have a different move set. E.X. Riku would have moves like Dark Aura, Xigbar would probably have something to do with his crossbows etc. etc. That's it for now, but I'll probably think of some other things for it later. So, your ideas on it?

  • Okay, a mirage arena could work. But only if it was up to twelve players, with each one choosing between Sora, Riku, Kairi, Roxas, Lea, Xion, Terra, Ven, Aqua, Goofy, Donald and Mickey.

Sounds like it'd get pretty unbalanced. Multiplayer in KHIII sounds good at first but I'd rather SE focus on creating a great single player experience.

I'd definitely like them to focus on creating a single player experience, but they can still focus on that and put in a multiplayer mode, I hope. About it being unbalanced, I'm sure they would adjust how each character plays.

I think SE needs to think about it more before putting multiplier in KH3 because it is their choice to put it in the game or not. I don't really care if it's in the game or not, but it would be interesting how SE would put multiplier in KH3.

It would be very interesting, I agree. I just hope that if they do, it resembles at least one of the ideas mentioned.

The multiplayer would feel tacked on. Story>Multiplayer in the KH series. Maybe an online arena to fight waves of enemies with friends but that's as far as I'd see it going.

I.E. Mirage Arena. I personally don't think it would feel tacked on, if it was handled correctly. And once again, make it so that you have to complete the story just to be able to play it.

I think that SE putting the Mirage Arena in BBS was a great start to online multiplier in the KH series. It really showed us that the KH 2.5 and KH3 could have a multiplier feature when they get released.

Exactly! By the way, why do you put multiplier instead of multiplayer?

I'm probably about to make a fool of myself, but when does KH X take place? I could've sworn it took place during that time period. Either way, that's an interesting idea. The more I think about, the more I think I'm wrong about KH X.

thats a good question because... I dont know myself haha

I was using spell check. I wasn't really paying attention to it. It should have been spelled multiplayer.

KHX takes place during the keyblade war if people consider it canon.

Ah, so I was right. Thanks for clearing that up.

I would love that. I know a lot of people want KH3 to simply stay a strong single-player experience but I would love a lot of thoughtful multiplayer experiences. Multiplayer has the potential to keep the game interesting long after you've beaten the story several times; so if done right it would make KH3 infinitely better.

In terms of modes it should cover all kinds of competitive battles, Co-op, and minigames.

Such as:

Competitive

A straight on Lights vs Darknesses(like you said) battles but of various sizes

Light a Dark team racing to reach the keyhole of a world

A mode where one side commands Heartless/Nobodies/etc to hinder another team trying to reach a goal

Co-op

Mirage Arena style boss battles or enemy waves

Co-op through unique worlds

Minigames

keyblade glider/gummi ship racing

Various other minigames like in BBS

Biggest of all people would love a small MMO-ish free roam mode where they can run around as customized characters, chat, and play minigames since it would give an official medium for role-players to act out their fanstories.

Considering they've done it with Days, a multiplayer mode unlockable in the game, I don't see why it's completely improbable. I would be happy enough though with a place like Mirage Arena or them doing "international" battles at the coliseum where you could go online and fight other players or their ghost and build up points for a trophy or item or something.  I wouldn't want a leader board is my main concern.  If you had to place first in an international leaderboard to get a prize it'd be near impossible for the majority of players to take that spot.

So a KH version of Sonic Adventure 2's Hero mode and Dark mode stories then?

I've never in my entire life heard of a game where prizes were awarded depending on your leaderboard rank; not even cod. :/

So that wouldn't happen anyways. If it was there just for kicks it would be perfectly fine.

Birth By Sleep was able to go online if you connected it to the PS3 via the app, AdHoc Party.

And there was a VERSUS MODE that worked flawlessly and was fun as fukc to fight other players around the world. It WOULD work because it already has.

KH Chi's has bonuses and prizes are based on the ranking first in the leaderboard, both for team and individual

That's a very good idea. I'm not entirely sure how the commanding heartless mode would work, but apart from that, that's a really good idea.

For the most part, the Single player experience is always the major focus. I dun think many people understand that you can still have one hell of single player experience and have great multiplayer with it. Wonderful examples of this would be Uncharted 2 and 3, The Last of Us, and Tomb Raider (2013).

That is very true. I can agree with the first three games you mentioned, but I've never played the new Tomb Raider.

I found it to be very good. I get bored with Tomb Raider games fast, but the reboot held my attention the whole way through. It's not even a boring title for once.

Well, remind me to look into it. Anyway, how's the multiplayer in it?

It's not completely balanced skill wise, but it's fun for the most part. You gain experience whether you win, lose, kill, die, etc. It's a fair game that doesn't punish your loss with no experience gain. Literally, that's what upsets me the most in Uncharted, The Last of Us, or any other competitive game. If I'm not gonna have a good run, I'm not gonna get to level up. At least Tomb Raider did that for me.

Anyway, we're getting off topic. xD

That sounds fun. And yes, yes we are. Have any more ideas for multiplayer in KHIII, or shall I just wait for someone else to respond?

I'm kind of a wreck right now, so I'm not in idea mode right now.

I'd ask why, but that would be going off topic.

Yeah, I'm not really sure either lol. I guess it could be like a plants vs zombies thing where one side has extra magic/abilities and the other side has no magic but can summon different heatless that can earn them points to summon bigger/better heartless.

I haven't played BBS multiplayer but seeing the youtube videos I can say there maybe needs to be a better combat system in KH3 for competitive multiplayer to be truly fun and not just repetitive/button mash-y(though I'll probably enjoy it either way if it happens :D).
