I've seen several times the theory saying that in the RoD time goes much slower, for example an hour is a day in the RoL, or a day is a year, etc, thus explaining why, after more than 11 years in the RoL Aqua looks the exact same as she did in BbS, showing no change in her physical appearance at all.

 

This is pretty valid, and makes sense, however I just thought of something.

If this were true then those same time rules applied to Sora and Riku after their final battle with Xemnas. I'm pretty sure Sora and Riku were there less than an hour, maybe 30 minutes give or take; so with that in mind and taking into account Aqua's state, does that mean Kairi, Mickey, Donald and Goofy were waiting for Riku and Sora at Destiny Islands for weeks? Maybe a month? That's unlikely.

 

So what do you guys think? Personally I think that Aqua should not look the same in KH3 (maybe with her hair a little longer at least?) and if she doesn't then get an explanation about it. And for Ven too, I guess getting your heart asleep prevents your body from aging.

I think that Sora and Riku may have been gone for a day or two, not weeks or months. It's also possible that since Sora and Riku weren't fully in the Realm of Darkness that time didn't move slow enough for there to be a noticeable difference in time.

They were there 5 minutes, literally. 6 tops. If you really pay attention to the ending cutscene, it seems like the scene that takes place in the RoD literally occurs immediately after they leave the Realm of Nothingness, or whatever it was called. And if you time their little chat before they make it back to Destiny Islands, it's about five-six minutes.

 

I like to think that two years is a 'day', with each hour representing a month in the RoL. So, 24 months (two years) would equal a single 'day' in the RoD. If that's the case, then that means Aqua would only been in the RoD for six days if KHIII takes place a year after KHII. But that's just me, it could also be a day is a year, which means that Aqua would have been in there for 12.

 

Either way, if that's the case, then Sora and Riku's five minute talk in the RoD would equate to maybe a few weeks or days, yes. But since we've never been given confirmation on how time in the RoD works, we can't say for sure.

I also agree with the fact that even though in the RoD, time goes slower, according to the above theory, her hair should have grown a little bit in 12-22 days. (Then again, she also should be dead from starvation, but that doesn't seem to be much of an issue in the KH verse.)

I wasn't sure if I should take the time the cutscene lasted as the time Sora and Riku actually spent in the RoD, but when you put it that way it would make sense, including with how much time Aqua has spent in there.

Two days = a year can't = two years being one day. That doesn't make sense.And if (2 years in the RoL = 1 day in the RoD) were true then it'd be much less than 22 days because only 12 years have passed, therefore, it would only be 6 days. The 22 days fits with your first sentence but not the second. So much contradictions

I like to think that time in the RoD does what it wants and just fluctuates from place to place, so how long your there is different for everybody.

That has always been my personal theory.

I believe that they were just avoiding showing Aqua's new appearance so that it would be more meaningful when revealed in KH3. That said, I do think that time flows differently in the RoD and RoL for two reasons:

 

1. In terms of the story it would be interesting having TAV be around the same age as the other main characters( though Terra is mostly likely to be significantly older given his situation).

2. In DDD, Riku and Joshua talk about how different worlds have different time axis' so that should apply to the RoL and RoD too.

 

We know that about 12 years in the RoL have passed since Birth by Sleep. I would like to think that 1 month in the RoD = 1 year in the RoL which would mean Aqua will be about 1 year older. I'm going with this since, symbolically, it would parallel with how Riku had to spend a year running around after Ansem SoD messed him up in KH1. Also in "Blank Points", Aqua says twice that it has been really long since she was in the RoL which is why I doubt a few mintutes in the RoD could equal days/weeks in the RoL. So in KH3 I expect Aqua to have really long hair(about 1 years worth).

1.- It's not a " theory" that time moves differently  since Nomura confirmed it . That's why the scene with AtW which takes place AFTER KH2 shows her looking the same backing this up .

What can be called the dark coastline seen at the beginning and end of KHII is the tip of a world. It is not strictly part of the realm of darkness but rather what serves as the boundary line in between the dark and the in-between. In the ending, Sora and Riku were on the coast on the in-between side and were looking at the sea of the realm of darkness. The door visible in the dark sea is a scene that symbolizes "Deep within the darkness, there is light", as Sora said in the previous KH.

 

Anyways, since we don't know exactly how much time goes by in each world since they all technically can vary ( also verfied btw ) it could've been only a day or two tops they spent waiting for Sora and Riku
