You Know What Was Great About Pokemon Gen V?

Posted

You know what I actually enjoyed iin the 5th Gen Pokemon games? The story. I mean holy crap never before have I cared for the storyline in a Pokemon game because usually it's always "collect all gym badges, beat the elite four, than defeat the champion". But man when I first played Pokemon Black/White that all changed which was a HUGE shocker to me. I mean the gym leaders ACTUALLY getting involved with what's going on in the region, the character development from your rivals (and from all the other characters in the game), and the end where you were about to fight the Pokemon champion. I have to say, even though Pokemon Gen 5 didn't have the best Pokemon, the plot greatly made up for it. And I loved the music in that game too (which got A LOT better in the sequel btw).

But I must admit though, I was a bit dissapointed with Pokemon X/Y's story. To me, it took two steps back. Lysandre was somewhat dissapointing kind of. I mean sure he wanted mass genicide but that's kinda been done already. Plus the way he went about it was minda meh tbh. His goal could have been great if they expanded upon his character in some kind of way. But they did have some missed opportunities with him, same goes for the story. Heck, the whole game was pretty much a prototype to test out their new engine so it's kind of obvious why the story wasn't as great. Not saying the X/Y was bad but I wish the story was a bit better. I was hoping that it would exceed Black/White's story. But hey, that's just me. I'm sure everyone else here had different expectations.

Exactly. Black and White is my absolute favourite games, and Gen 5 is my favourite as well. The plot was good for a Pokémon game, and even though its the only game with a good story, it was still refreshing and it had a huge distinction because of it. The Pokémon aren't bad, they were actually really good in either design, concept, or typing. I love all Pokémon that even Trubbish and Garbordor grew on me. The ending of BW is what really made the games worth playing for any Pokémon fan.

XY story disappointed me too since Black and White really had pushed the expectations when it comes to story. The gameplay and the graphics are amazing but the story is just what didn't make me like this story as a whole. Also Team Flare was too goofy. I love fun and all, but damn, they made them seem like idiots who have no idea what they are doing.

But while Gen 5 had a great story, I felt the myths from Gen IV were really cool, since it introduced creationism with Arceus and the universe.

Yeah. Game Freak did a spectacular job with Gen V's story. It greatly exceeded my expectations. That's why i hope that we see a new main title Pokemon game to have a story that's either just as good or on par wtih White/Black's story. And even though I wasn't too fond of the Pokemon in that gen. it really didn't bother me all that much once I got used to the game since the story was really well done.

And yeah I have to agree with Team Flare. they were waaaaaaay too goofy to be called villians. Everyone except Lysandre were a joke to be evil.I wish I could've taken them more seriously but I just couldn't. As for the myths in G IV, yeah they were excellent. The games from that gen seemed to revolve around creation, the universe, life, emotion, physics, time, soace, and even anti matter.

I preferred the first four gens. IV was amazing.

Yeah. gen IV had the best and darkest villians ever seen in a Pokemon game. Though the villians in Gen V were a very close second for me.

The only problem I had with Team Flare was that they were way too goofy to take their threat of worldwide genocide seriously. It felt like they just copied Team Galactic's characterization and tried to make it super edgy but missed it by like 50 miles.

You know what was great about Pokemon Gen II? Everything.

Gen V is pretty cool too, though.

And that's my friend is why Gen 5 is my favorite Pokemon Generation and one of my favorite video games of all time, not to mention the great post game in Black and White 2 with PWT ^_^

And while XY  is still great and added a lot competitively,I was disappointed a bit by the story and Team Flare was nooooo where near as threatening as Team Plasma

Yeah, I loved how much post game content there was in Black/White 2.

Pretty much what most said here. Too bad it's underrated since many Pokemon fans don't care about the story.

Probably because most seem to be blinded by the butthurt of the "terrible" pokemon designs like Vanillite or Trubbish when we've had shit like Lickitung and Dugtrio from Day 1.
