You guys might've seen the "Hatred" trailer online. It's centers around this creepy man in a dark environment and he's loading up his arsenal to kill civilians....

As if the gaming industry wasn't under enough fire already, this trailer drops and everyone is freaking out about it. There's definitely a difference between GTA and Hatred. Hatred's prime objective is to slaughter innocents whereas GTA is mostly comprised of missions relating to the story.

While I'm a big fan of mindless violence, I think this game goes too far and sends the wrong message. It seems the game was created to piss people off rather than tell a good story or have meaningful characters. I won't be protesting against it or boycotting or anything of that nature, I just won't be buying it.

What are your thoughts on the trailer?

I think people need to know that a game is a game. You can write books and make movies and no one will complain. The ones that are "influenced" by a mere game already had the intentions to do whatever it is they did.

I think this sums it up for me

Ok what's worse.

A game that makes you a mass murdering killing machine that has no effect on the real world (that MANY games have done already)

Or

A real life serial killer doing mass murders that will scar families and end REAL lives .-.

People are just over dramatic

"OHHHHH the torture scene in GTA V was vicious" *stares at stockpile of Horror movies*

Well depends how you look at it. Obviously it's just a game, but what's the point? Where's the plot?

I love violence as much as the next guy, but when there's no point, I lose interest quickly.

This guy says "I can see why people would be upset if it was based on life events..."

This happens in real life all the time. I live in Connecticut and a few years ago a man killed 20 children at an elementary school along with 6 teachers.

Games don't always need deep and compelling plots to be fun. Mario's plots usually boil down to "Save princess" and I'll jump through dozens of levels because it's fun to do -- though Hatred looks boring to me. If I'm going to play a murder simulator they might as well give me more gameplay options than to run around gunning people down like a third-person FPS. What if I wanna kill more stealthily, sneaking up on people? What if I wanna kill a lot of people all at once by planting a bomb or something? If you're gonna be controversial, at least be interesting. That's why I wouldn't play the game, at least.

I just think it looks stupid. There's been plenty of games about mass slaughter, this just comes at a bad time, really. Manhunt, anyone?

Pretty much this. Stuff like Manhunt and No More Heroes are legitimately fun games even though they're pretty over-the-top violent, although it's more of a stylistic thing than to generate controversy artificially. Hatred just feels like it's trying too hard to be controversial and "edgy".

Yeah but Mario was a platform game and it was made in the 80's.

Hatred does look like it will get boring fast, unless you're a psychopath hahaha. It just looks like a mindless slasher. I would play if I was Jason Voorhees because that's cool and he's a supernatural icon. It would make more sense and it would be a little more justifiable.

It does look stupid. You know Congress is going to use this game as a scapegoat for future tragedy. Just like all other violent video game on the market. This game won't help our case as gamers. It's more of a troll game than anything.
