Sony hired Mark Cerny in like 2009. So yeah.

It takes years to develop a console.

Exactly, but there is that group of people that loves to jump to conclusions with stuff like this

oh well, even if it was confirmed this year we wouldn't see a thing about it for a very long time.

Tell that to the dumbroods on news site that keeps on saying that Nintendo's next console is coming next year

I wonder why they are thinking that this is true because the wii u isn't officially "done" yet as far as I know. I don't really except nintendo's next console next year due to the fact that zelda u is coming out late year along with other games.

Well it's common sense that it would take years until we are even officially teased about Nintentdo's next console. A new handheld might be announced and revealed within that time, but it would still take about another 4 or 5 years before we hear anything about the next home console. And typically, it's not even close to time to even confirm the next console when you still have lots of IP that haven't had their own exclusive games on it yet. Zelda U still has to come out, they might plan something for Pokemon again, and Mario still needs to get a few more main series titles on that thing (not counting spin-offs, he got New Super Mario Bros Wii and Wii2, Super Mario Galaxy and Galaxy 2 on the Wii, so he at least needs two more on the Wii U, I think). Not to mention there are other IP's that need to be included and there's lots of potential for 3rd party characters to have some interesting titles here.

I know there's lots of speculation among this site that there might be a Wii U installment of Kingdom Hearts some time in the future, be it as an HD remaster or something entirely different, and while I realize that right now it doesn't seem likely as Nomura is trying to "unify" the series onto on console, keep in mind that Kingdom Hearts III IS going to be on the Xbone as well as the PS4, so I wouldn't necessarily say that Nomura is entirely devoted to the idea of keeping it Sony. It seems that he's just creating an opportunity to have everything you need to understand the series on one console while still considering the possibilities of other hardware in the future.

But I'm getting off track. The point is that it really does feel too soon to be even thinking about Nintendo's next console. The Wii U still feels like it just came out, and while I realize that in terms of specs it does still seem like Nintendo is one step behind Sony and Microsoft, at the very least we still have all of the positive parts of the 7th Gen of Gaming to accompany us into the 8th. Of course companies are ALWAYS thinking about and working on their next console, even after their latest one has just been released, but just because they're hiring new people to work on it does not mean that we're going to hear something about it in the next year or so. The Wii U got off to a rocky start but it's just starting to pick up steam now, there's no way Nintendo is going to cut that comeback short just to announce their desire to "catch up" with the competition. Besides, it seems like the PS4 and Xbox One will have longer lifecycles than their predecessors (well, the PS4 anyway #SonyBiasFTW), so I say that there's plenty of time for Nintendo to catch up in both the HD era and SuperHD era (or whatever we're calling this new generation). Nintendo's developments will occur and be announced in their own time, may as well just enjoy what they give us while we look to the other companies to make up the difference.

If Nintendo dropped the Wii U support before Xenoblade Chronicles X is released, I'll be pissed off.

Jokes aside, this is really irritating me that people are jumping to conclusions with this. The Wii U is NOT dead, and they are NOT revealing a new system any time soon. People need to learn to let a console live its life span. I just got a PS3, and I don't want to get a PS4 anytime soon so I can enjoy all of the great PS3 games I missed (There's also the whole thing with me not thinking there are any PS4 games coming soon that make it worth buying one, I guess). I'm still catching up on WII games, and I've had a Wii since around launch year if I remember correctly. People need to let the consoles show their full potential and live a long life before jumping on the next gen bandwagon already.
