Oh, hey, it's been a week now, hasn't it?

Two new characters added to the Japanese website! I'll post summaries with links to their bios down below!

First off, we have Rao, the Dunban lookalike from the 2014 trailer:

Rao is apparently another team leader within BLADE. He looks cold, but... Has a hot thing in the bottom of his heart? I'm assuming that means he has a soft side. The bio compares him to Elma, too. I'm wondering if they're rivals?

The next character is Doug:

Doug's a weapon expert, and am aster at maneuvering... Dole? I'm guessing that meant Dolls. He has a relation to Elma and Rao (He's mentioned in Rao's bio), and seems to be easy-going despite his rugged appearance. I was originally going for Guin being the new Reyn, but I get a feeling he's Reyn 2.0 this time around.

Also, late on this, but the Direct from a few weeks ago has been translated. If you want to check it out with subtitles (I still need to watch it myself), you can see it here:

Thanks to Reyn for showing it to me.

Riki feel so ignored... Oho, Heropon not good enough for you!? Riki want attention, too!

Nah, for reals, though, this sounds legit.

I was actually probably the first person on the site to see this (Saw it really early this morning), but I wasn't able to post it in the X thread because I had taken the last two posts and didn't want to triple post.

Either way, hype.

Here's the Xenoblade Chronicles X Battle Presentation as well as new information in case anyone has missed it:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Pq-H_xEc8c0

In Xenoblade Chronicles X, you’ll get most of your equipment at the Shopping District in New Los Angeles. While some may look the same, they’ll often vary in effects and attributes, so you’ll want to keep a close eye on what you purchase.

Weapons are split between Fighting and Shooting types. Fighting weapons include knives, swords, shields, and javelins. Shooting weapons have rifles, guns, and launchers.

As far as armor goes, there are parts for: head, body, left arm, right arm, and legs.

Equipment comes in different sets and series. The above screenshots show just a small example of the variety there is to gear up with.

There are different companies that develop various equipment, and you might find yourself choosing certain brands over others, which helps in leveling up the manufacturing companies, as you purchase and use their products.

As the companies can level up, it results in the production of new and better equipment from their lines.

Equipment also have slots, which you can use to input Devices to add different power-ups and effects to the gear.

You can also get equipment from monsters.. There are some monsters that drop exceptionally good equipment, so it sounds like it’ll be worth farming certain beasts to get that special piece of armor or weapon.

While finding rare and powerful equipment can be beneficial, you’ll need to keep your “Inner Level” in check, as equipment has level restriction, which won’t allow you to use them until you meet the right Inner Level requirements. Characters won’t only level by fighting, but also from doing different things like finding treasure or exploring.

Again, one of the most important factors that will play a role in your fighting style, is the class system. All characters start out as a Drifter class, and after getting the basic Arts, they’ll get to choose between Assault, Command, and Forcer classes.

Each class has its own Arts and usable equipment, but in the end, it will be up to your preferred playstyle. There are various advanced classes as well. For example, the Assault class is shown branching into “Samurai Gun” and “Shield Battler”.

The Samurai Gun class can also go into its final form of “General Sword”. Classes will have their own exclusive Arts as well, so they’ll be worth looking into as you level your characters.

Elma and Lyn aren’t the only ones who’ll join your party–there are all kinds of characters from NLA and BLADE that will be more than willing to help you out in battle. Similar to Xenoblade Chronicles, you’ll also get to play as the other party members in combat.

Finally, the livestream ended with the members of BLADE encountering a new race of enemies, and they control giant laser-shooting mecha. They also can’t stand the sight of humans. In order to defeat them, BLADE will need to bring out their mecha weapons, the Dolls… which will be featured in the next livestream for the game.

Looks like I was beaten to the first post about the stream, although NintendoLife did another summary that went into more detail about some aspects that the one Tails posted pointed out:

The presentation jumped right into things with a brief explanation about the game's target reticle. Once locked onto an enemy, the controlled character will automatically attack with a melee weapon when up close, or a gun when farther away. This frees players up to select "Arts," the skills specific to classes and characters. There are many different kinds, as you would expect in any RPG, and the overall system is naturally very similar to that of Xenoblade Chronicles on Wii and, soon, New Nintendo 3DS. We have Sword arts when in melee range, Gun arts when farther away, Support arts to keep your party healthy, and so on. Most arts work on a cool-down timer; they can't be spammed consecutively. However, also introduced was a taunt mechanic, which will allow players to increase their damage by successfully taunting an enemy. Although taunting can put players in a vulnerable position, it's often worth the risk.

Next up the video covered battle tactics. Combos with arts play a large role as combining arts together will make them more powerful. Creatures will also have weak points to exploit. Furthermore, a type of power bar will fill when certain criteria is met during battle; when it's high enough you can revive downed party members. An Overclock mechanic is also present. Overclocking allows players to fire off arts more quickly and unleash powerful moves for massive damage; if done at the same time as other party members, the power boost is significant. Overclocking at the right time seems essential to defeating more difficult monsters. In short, Xenoblade Chronicles X wants you to use your brain while playing, and not just button mash away.

Enemy icons were also given a short spotlight. Each enemy players face — and there are many, many enemies — come paired with a level and an icon indicating aggressiveness, similar to a massively multiplayer game and this game's predecessor. A red eye symbol means the creature will attack only if it sees you within its range of vision. Another icon signifies the monster will attack if you get too close whether or not it can see you. Another icon still warns you that some creatures will summon some friends and swarm your party. Clearly, paying attention to icons will be crucial for success.

Weapons, armour, shields, and how to obtain them came up next. The video showed several weapons equipped on the player, including big swords, little swords, javelins, guns, and rocket launchers. Each had a distinct look, but it was noted that similar types of weapons may have very different functions. Armour was shown for every part of the body. Head, arms, body, and leg armor looked wearable, and there appeared to be different distinct styles for different characters. Elma, for instance, was shown with skin-revealing armor, where the player-character was decked out in bulky knight armour. Of course, with a full set of the same type of armor equipped you'll not only look cool, but will receive a combat bonus as well.

A mechanic called "commercial effect" was briefly explained. Armour and weapons are sold by companies within the city of New Los Angeles. Using armour from certain companies more often than others will level up the armour and improve that company which, in turn, gives you bonuses and access to more equipment. But companies aren't the only way to find new gear. Creatures in the wild also drop equipment to collect.

A tantalizing glimpse at character classes was shown. It looks like base arts will have to be acquired before you can select arts from certain skill trees, like "Samurai Gun" and "General Sword." Unfortunately, that was about all that was said.

The battle presentation wound down with a quick look at NPCs which can join the player's party. Based on which Union, or "guild," players join, certain NPCs can tag along and help fight monsters. You recruit them from within New LA. For example, the Interceptor Union features a boyish woman named Elina and her younger student named Guin; both can be recruited to help out. A "nice, sensitive man" named Doug becomes available in the Avalanche Union, and a trustworthy chap named Rao is recruitable for people of the Path Finder persuasion. Each will likely have their own story and fleshed out personalities.

A brief glimpse at a tentacle alien lady hinted at a bit of Xenoblade Chronicles X's story. Apparently, this alien woman has control of Dolls — robot mech suits — which the protagonists can't harm; it appears solving this issue will function as a plot device at some point in the game.

Also, I missed this, but the official Japanese website added a new track last month! Thanks to Reyn for letting me know about this.

Finally, this is just a rumor at this point, but Amazon Italy lists the game's release date as June 26, 2015. Again, no official confirmation, but this could have been a potential leak for the European release date. Hopefully the North American release date will be somewhere close to that!

Congratulations! Your Riki evolved into (Insert whoever your favorite X character ends up being here)!

There's so much freaking hype right now. Also, I know I told you this in Steam chat, but I felt like getting it out on the thread: these enemy mechs (I'm betting the enemy shown was from Growth) sound very similar to a certain other group of robots, judging from their immunity to ordinary weapons...

I've played the first Xenoblade to know that Monolith takes a lot of time and effort to make their game experiences feeling fresh even through 100+ hours of gameplay, but this is a borderline insane amount of detail. Recruitable NPUs with their own original Art sets? Hundreds of customizable costume parts that would've been an excuse for a different developer to include as DLC? Absolutely frikking incredible. This is why I condone developers for annual releases because you can't offer an amazing experience like this in just one year of development, and dam anyone who thinks Monolith should've spent the most time prettying up the character models, because when I buy this game I know that it won't spontaneously glitch out every five minutes and that I'll be playing one of the best games ever made.

No mech gameplay was a bit disappointing, but yeah, assuming the final image of that mechon-look-a-like is pointing to anything, they're saving information on those until later, which is absolutely fine by me, because the wait will be worth it.

Man, the more info and gameplay i see of this game the more hyped I am for this game. I'm even more hyped for this than I am at Final Fantasy XV even though I am still pretyhyped to play the demo lol.

I agree 100%. Even compared to Xenoblade, this is an insane amount of content, and we wouldn't have this if Monolith released games as often as most other companies. They take time to ensure that their games are masterpieces, and that's why I love them. I can tell I'll be spending a lot of time with this one.

The summary Tails posted mentioned that the next stream will go into details on the mechs. I'm guessing we'll see that one on April 3rd, since it seems like these are going to be shown monthly.

Yeah, that seems pretty likely to be when the next stream will happen. But I hope that we hear some English voices soon too. I really want to know what they will sound like in English.

I really hope they keep the British VA, it just wouldn't feel like Xenoblade without them.

Yeah, I want to hear them soon, too. If we get a Nintendo Direct this month, maybe we'll finally get to hear them? The game's almost out in Japan, they have to have done some of the English voice work already.

Its ok,but the lyrics are kind of unnecessary since this is just the regular battle theme.

Its ok,but the lyrics are kind of unnecessary since this is just the regular battle theme.

The composer rarely makes any music at all without some sort of vocal in it, reguardless of its nessicary or not.

(As quoted from my comment on Youtube, my thoughts)

Positive:

It steps outside of this composer's usual instrumental setup and slightly diffrent to his style.

It has something fresh in it (being the rap, which, by itslef, I don't mind.)

I like the more rock-esk vibe brought to it.

Negative:

It still tries way too had to make itself sound "epic". Like a lot of this composer's pieces. I can tell ACE+ had a huge hand in this one, but reguardless of that the music still sounds like the same sort of song e4 have heard before.

It's very generic rock with no real extremes or liberties done for it. It sounds like any generic rock song until the rap is thrown in, and then it just makes it seem more like alternative rock than anything else.

The rap. At its core, I have no problem with it. But for fighting music, I don't really want to hear a dude rapping in the background as I fight a monster unless I'm playing Minecraft and a song in my Playlist with rap in it begins playing. If this were for cutscenes which were trying to pump up a player for a big fight, this would be great in addition for making it seem a little more exciting. But when your already in the heat of combat, even with this rap, this will sound like a bee buzzing in your ear. It's forgettable and boring in thst scenario.

It's OK, in my opinion. Not a track I want to hear when I'm killing monsters or fighting major baddies or something, but it is OK. If they had it for cutscene reasons rather than as a battle theme, this pece would be pretty good, generic, but good. The rap, though a tad strange, is likable.

My thoughts are pretty much the opposite of Riki's. I don't mind the first part, but... I should mention I don't like rap in general, so it's pretty obvious that I'm not a fan of the rap part of this. :/ I agree that this fits better as cutscene music, although I guess we'll see how it works when the game is released. The music is really my only concern with the game at this point.

Same for me. Like I said before. The music so far hasn't been exelent...

I like the first few tracks we could listen to, but it's starting to wear down on me now. I mean, there were some in the Directs that sounded cool from what we could hear, but then there's... This. This is what we'll be hearing during most of our playtime. Not sure I like that idea. I'm seriously beginning to wish that they'd just brought back ACE+ and Yoko Shimomura to do the music this time around. :/

While I detest Attack on Titan I still feel that we'll have to see how the music holds up in the actual game. So far I can't see it topping Xenoblade by any stretch but who knows it might be somewhat good in-game.

Hopefully...

The third Xenoblade X presentation was just announced! It's going to be shown on April 10 (Same day Xenoblade 3D releases in NA), and will cover the Dolls and Network features of the game. As usual, I'll be sure to post a translated summary and a video of the presentation when it's all over!

Also, in other news, Xenoblade X's site was updated yesterday to reflect April Fool's Day. The changes are gone now, but Reyn managed to see them while they were up. I found a screenshot, although it's apparently not everything that was changed:
