Well, we've got a lot of news to cover. Some good, one item that will be considered bad by some. I'm going to hold off judgement on that "bad" one for now, though.

First off, the website for Xenoblade Chronicles X added some new videos, screenshots, and concept art! The videos are showing off combat and arts, the screenshots are more shots of different areas in the game, while the concept art shows the Dolls that we'll be learning more about in tomorrow's stream!

We've also received news about the four starting classes in the game! These classes are Drifter, Assault, Command, and Forcer. We also learned a little more about the Soul feature that's returning from Xenoblade Chronicles on the Wii! This information apparently relates to those videos I posted earlier. There's a lot of information here, so I'll just post the link for those interested in reading about the classes and Soul feature.

It's also been confirmed that after completing the game, players will receive an option called "fashion equipment," which allows you to essentially equip two different sets of armor: One that affects your stats, and one that affects your appearance.

Finally, the Japanese download card for Xenoblade X confirms that there will be additional downloadable content (Seemingly quests) for Xenoblade X. There's no word on prices or what's included, but hopefully we'll learn about the details soon!

I'm really liking the class system tat will be present. Not entirely sure which I'll go with but for now Assault and Command are neat sounding.

Can't believe they got Takayuki Yanase to do the mechs, that's really cool.

Monolith have had my money for quite some time now and that won't be changing any time soon.

Crap... Sorry everyone, I ended up sleeping in. I won't even have time to read the summary myself before I get this posted. The stream was awesome though, so I'm looking forward to reading about the details!

Anyway, here's a translated summary for today's stream. As stated before, it went over the mechs and online functions of the game. NintendoLife has put together yet another summary for us to read!

The first details uncovered were about different types of Dolls. There are three types: Light, Middle, and Heavy - you can see where this is going. Light types move fast but take more damage, Middle types are easy to control, and Heavy types are slow but come with more protection. Each class of Doll comes paired with different models; Light type, for example, features models called Formula, Wels, and Urban. If there were any significant differences other than appearance between these subtypes, we didn't catch it.

Up next we were treated to a Doll montage which showed off the different transformations between the types. For ground vehicles, Light types transform into a speedy bike. Middle type transforms into a car with four tires, and Heavy type transforms into a pseudo-tank complete with treads. The second transformation requires a Flight pack, but Flight mode appears virtually identical between the three types. However, Dolls have fuel requirements, so flying around forever isn't possible. You can also own every type of Doll, but collecting them all is a monumental, expensive task.

How Dolls fight - the really good stuff - was showcased next; Dolls have a ton of different weapon slots. Let's see: Hand weapons, arm weapons, spare weapons, back weapons, shoulder weapons and super weapons were revealed. Hand weapons are mainly for melee attacks or light guns. Beam shields and arm cannons can be equipped in the arm weapon slot. Spare weapons are not very powerful but function as utility weapons. Back weapons look like strong, slow weapons. At least hand weapons, arm weapons, and shoulder weapons allow you to equip one each on the left side and right side. The left and right weapons - at least for shoulder weapons - can combine to make another weapon as well. Fortunately - in the interest of balancing - super weapons, such as the giant, bendy hammer shown in the video or the massive beam cannon, use fuel as well, so you can't fire them repeatedly or risk dropping out of the sky and having to wait for your fuel to recharge. Still, if our math is correct it appears Dolls can be outfitted with approximately nine different weapons, so they're no slouches despite fuel restrictions.

Dolls aren't invincible, either. Since they're so costly, players can purchase Doll Insurance, which makes sure every time a Doll is destroyed the player's bank isn't broken. However, Doll Insurance can only be used three times. If the Doll is destroyed for a fourth time, players will have to purchase it anew. The presentation noted that getting out of the Doll before it explodes and fighting on foot is a rather good idea.

Last, but certainly not least, the presentation covered online functionality. Xenoblade Chronicles X comes with a bevvy of surprising online features that actually caught us a little off guard; they'd only been alluded to briefly in the past. First up is the ability to import your friends' characters into your game and use them in your party. Second, what looks like a type of guild system (Note: our translation suffered here due to a substantial amount of game jargon) is also present, made up of 32 people. In this group, you can share information on the planet Mira, such as what monster is weak to what type of weapon and where to find certain items. Furthermore, Treasure Deal is a new mechanic that allows you to send and receive gear with friends. Need a new gun? You can request it and have it sent to you when your friend finds one.

Furthermore, it looks like there's some leaderboard functionality between friends within Xenoblade Chronicle X's eight in-game Unions. Also, it seems players can invite each other into their games - in groups of four - and take on massive World bosses together. Again, we translated here to the best of our abilities - hopefully the developers reveal more clear information soon.

The presentation closed out with an attack on the city of New Los Angeles. Under siege by some unknown alien presence that won't cooperate or communicate with humans; a dozen Dolls took up position on the city wall, before firing off into the fray.

NintendoLife also provided a link to the stream, which is still untranslated:

One thing I noticed about the stream... When the types of mechs were first being shown, some had what looked like a Monado on their shoulders. Not quite sure what that means, but we'll find out when we all get the chance to play the game!

Also, it's been confirmed that the disc version of the game will allow players to install data packs in order to help speed up loading times. You can download all four, or pick and choose. They all look fairly large, so I might just go for the basic data pack myself. It's nice to know this feature is being included, though. You can look at the four packs below:

  • Basic Pack (2GB): for basic data, like the most frequent elements of terrain, which speeds up loading within the city and on Planet Mira. [Very Effective]
  • Enemy Data Pack (2.7GB): for enemy data. Makes loading on the field even faster. [Mildly Effective]
  • Player Data Pack (3.6GB): for player data (armor, etc.). Makes loading time faster when changing equipment in shops. [Mildly Effective]
  • Doll Data Pack (1.7GB): for Doll data. Makes deployment of Dolls much faster. [Mildly Effective]

Source: http://www.nintendolife.com/news/2015/04/xenoblade_chronicles_x_will_use_downloadable_data_packs_to_expedite_loading_times

I hate to point out the obvious but..... this game is going to be freakin' huge. I'm not even a massive mecha geek or anything and I really like them so far (lol doll insurance).

The sooner we get an English release date the better. I really hope it does well in Japan later this month :)

Found some cool gifs.

Who won't be doing that? :P The mechs are probably my favorite addition to the game, they look really fun to use.

Here's a sample of the Xenoblade Chronicles X soundtrack:

So what do you guys think of the soundtrack?

Edited by Tails

Ehh, I like the original's better. They had more... spice to what they were conveying in the music. That, and violin is probably my favorite instrument.

But I dunno, it feels somewhat like movie music.

By the way, JUST GOT TO GAUR PLAIN IN XC3D (^w^)ノ I was waiting for the moment when the music popped up.

I've been avoiding the soundtrack sample video just to keep most of the music a surprise, but from what's been put on the Japanese site, I'm not a terribly big fan. I mean, it's good, but kind of stale. It's not nearly as diverse as the original Xenoblade's music. Of course, that's just a minor issue. Everything else about the new game has looked incredible so far.

didn't they originally advertise "famed movie composer haroyuki sawano" at some point?

it definitely has a generic movie/anime feel

also just sayin, I called it with the music back with the vrery first trailer

That's because the original Xenoblade had composers that can preform more than one style of music. And did both rock and traditional style musics, composed it with the fact people are playing this as a game in mind, and it sounds like it was fun compose and to preform. XCX has very little creative soul to its music. It's the same "Oh hey its a grand gigantic super epic half instrumental with overuseage of vocals" song every time, just with small alterations. the composer hasn't even really taken into account that this music will be playing when you're playing a video game. If it were for an anime, it would be very very decent, but for a video game, it's not what you really wanna listen to. I mean, for Bionis' sake, the main battle theme has rap in it. No one is going to pay attention to said rap because it's just background. The rap will be lost amongst the shouting and monster cries, impact sounds, ect, it's highly waisted. Nearly all the attention will be on the fight. So why? Why a rap of all things? His normal choir would have been fine for a battle because you don't have to try and pay attention or get destracted by those vocals. You don't need hear some dude rapping about your location and situation EVERY time you need to hunt for a monster, what dose it add to the song? Nothing. I like rap, myself, but it's very, VERY out of place and is probably the biggest complaint I have with the soundtrack other than it sounds very bland and uncreative overall. The songs we know of right now sound like character themes, or an Anime OST. Not a videogame. They sound PAINFULLY out of place. And I don't like it.I feel if FF15 might be superior in any aspect for sure, the music is where it will be at. In general, SE chooses some good songs/composers for their projects, so I feel that FF15 has a good chance there....Sorry, I just really hate this soundtrack so far...

Its probably the only point I agree with you on. I didn't think it was going to be developed well on a music edge because A. I hate Swano B. He mostly dose Anime, and has no idea how to compose for a game.

I'm not a huge fan of the music we've heard thus far and I'm not entirely keen on much of the work Sawano does, but I'm willing to give the soundtrack a chance once I'm in the game.

I don't think the soundtrack will top that of Chronicles, but as long as it does a good enough job sound-wise then I don't mind.

Famitsu have given the game 34/40..... Considering Famitsu aren't really all that credible most of the time I'm not sure it's that bad of a score. I mean two 9s and 8s is good right?

For comparison sakes, Assassins Creed Chronicles: China got the same score despite those in the west giving it mediocre scores.

Thst is... Worrying..I mean, I don't care much for the "reviewers" much unless I trust my judgement, but I'm wondering how Xenoblade X falls short?Maybe when compared to the original it was slightly let downish?

Edited by Guest

In what universe is a few people giving a game a 34/40 troubling? I'll still put in a year's life of my time into playing it and no one review score is going to change that fact, and heck as far as review scores go that's not even a bad score.

Isn't Famitsu legendary for being really harsh with their reviews, too? 34/40 seems like a pretty good score from them.

They can't be that harsh, considering they've given out 22 perfect scores and 40 near perfect (39/40)

Pretty sure they also gave a game a score higher than 40

Famitsu is pretty xenophobic and plays favourites in that regard. They've only ever given two Western games a perfect score, Skyrim and GTA V. The fact that the game was about Asian culture is most like a major bias factor.

It's nice to see more of the plot this time around. It's looking really exciting! Of course, I noticed something, and it might also stand out to others who played the original Xenoblade...

apparently Telethia were confirmed in a previous trailer, but they were mentioned in Japanese (not subtitled)

Agreed. Also,

There was a character thst HIGHLY resembles a Machina, but softer in design. This only makes me feel my theory is correct.

Yeah, that would be great if we got an English release date. Or at least a window release.
