Mevius Final Fantasy revealed for iOS & Android - Kitase, Nojima & Itahana

Posted

The latest issue of Famitsu Weekly magazine has revealed a brand new Final Fantasy game for iOS & Android, titled Mevius Final Fantasy. Yoshinori Kitase (VI, VII, VIII, X, XIII along with KH1 & 2) is producer while Kazushige Nojima (VII, VIII, X, XV & KH1) is writing the story and Toshiyuki Itahana (IX & Crystal Chronicles) is the game's character designer. It will be released in Japan in Spring 2015. An English version is very likely as it has been trademarked in North America & Europe.

It wasn't. They revealed a new SaGa game for PS Vita.

This? This was Kitase's secret project? You gotta be kidding me

He's only producing, he produces tons of games. He's working with Toriyama on another big FF for PS4.

Someone on FinalFantasyNet said this.

This is good news for fans of Hiroyuki Ito (FFVI, FFIX, FFXII Director).

Seeing as Yoshinori Kitase's team (FFX, FFX-2, FFXIII Trilogy) are developing this Smartphone game and even making it be on par with a AAA mainline FF, there's no way they're also making FFXVI. Therefore, the only FF director and team that is free of a big AAA project right now (and has been for almost 8 years) is Hiroyuki Ito and the FFXII team. Ito has to be already be making FFXVI for release on PS4/XB1. I won't be surprised if the game is already deep in pre-production with the story, setting, and character designs nearly finalised.

I wonder how true is this?

It's kinda true. Ito's team is making XVI. But Toriyama-Kitase team is not making Mevius. It might be being developed in division 1 but Toriyama is not working on Mevius and has recently confirmed he's working on a new project.

good to know Shulk is still getting work after Xenoblade

I love how his armor covers everything other than his most vital body parts- like, it's exactly the opposite of any actual human armor. Kind of incredible, really.

I can't read Japanese; does any of that text say how the game is actually gonna work? Is it gonna be a turn-based RPG, or what?

Hasn't been revealed yet, most likely at Jump Festa.

It wasn't, it was designed by Toshiyuki Itahana.

Titled Mevius Final Fantasy, the game is being developed in-house and is slated for release on iOS and Android in Spring, 2015.  (王道) of Final Fantasy with features like map exploration –  – tactical battles, and a leveling system. The game focuses on the "warrior of light," paying homage to the original Final Fantasy that Sakaguchi made.

According to Kitase, the game will take the "classic road"

Soooo...like every single FF game released on a smartphone? Got'cha.

although moving across the map will be automated

I expected something would be automated down the line, no surprise here.

Oh boy, a Final Fantasy that goes back to its roots? How novel! They never make games like that! Especially not low budget downloadable ones

that... really doesn't resemble Nomura's style at all

I know that Nomura is known for spamming belts and zippers but I won't be surprised if he designed this.....I might be wrong probably but I won't be surprised if it was true
