We've been a lot of ports and HD Remasters. Heck, we now even get a port OF a port (looking at you Final Fantasy X/X-2 HD and Final Fantasy VII PC). I like HD remasters as much as the next guy but there's sooooooooo many ports it's crazy. I know that this is all just business for them since this is a good way for them to make a quick buck, and I'll admit that these ports are good for the next generation of gamers who haven't been around when  we played these old games. But I'm just saying that holy crap all of these ports/HD remasters everywhere!

The companies (because it's more than one doing it) probably want to make sure all their favorite games are playable in the new generation of consoles before releasing new games.

Yeah, which is fine for the next generation of gamers. But I'm just saying how it's kinda funny how we're getting so many ports these days lol.

They will keep coming if people keep buying them. In Final Fantasy's case, the greatest troll in video game history said they're trying to make an echo system on the PS4 for Final Fantasy, so in other words they'll be porting nearly every main series game at some point since they can't currently be played on PS4.

Companies often choose to play it safe by releasing the same product or one very similar to a previous success. It's always kinda been like this, but this might be an all time high.

Does that mean a FFVII, and FFIX remake?

No. They are NOT remaking VII, VIII or IX. They're porting the PC version of VII to PS4 and most likely will follow that up with the PC version of VIII. They can't do anything else with those two. They could remaster IX in HD but that would be completely up to Ito, otherwise they'll just emulate the PSOne version on PS4.

Backward compatibility says hi

Why can't they even provide that through digital means if the current gen of consoles can't play a mere Ps3xbox 360 discs

As someone who didn't have a lot growing up too buy many games or systems, I personally like ports since I have a chance to buy a game without requiring the system it was on that I may not have.   They're also generally cheaper than the older rarer versions, and improve stuff that you would have found annoying in the original (like losing all items you got if you leave a level in Banjo on the 64).

It might seem like they're milking it but it's not always about making a quick buck (usually is for CEOs), but making a (usually) brilliant game available for younger generations.  This is probably annoying to people who already played the original but I'm pretty sure I'm not the only person who appreciates them.

You just want an HD Collection for Sonic Adventure 1 and 2, don't you?

I'm getting tired of the constant remasters that are being made. I mean, really... I'd rather see something that would actually make me get a PS4 over something that I could pull my PS2 out and play on there without having to pay extra.

Backwards compatibility isn't possible when the hardware is too different.

The ports are usually outsourced. You'll find everyone who is doing these ports is also developing something else. Naughty Dog: Uncharted 4. Crystal Dynamics: Rise of the Tomb Raider. Sleeping Dogs studio: Triad Wars. Square Enix: Final Fantasy XV, Final Fantasy XVI and whatever Toriyama & Kitase are working on.
