What are Organization 13 coats made out of?

Posted

Ok, I recently have been shopping around for an Org. 13 cosplay coat and while doing so I have noticed that a lot of people make them out of like a leather material. Seeing this I began to wonder, why leather? I cant remember if it was stated anywhere that they were leather coats, and the cloth ones I have found look so much more similar to the ones in the game. The leather ones look so different from the game, I really wonder why so many have gone that route in their designs.  I always thought they were cloth coats, but again I cant remember if it was ever stated that they were or weren't. Does anyone know or remember SE saying what they were made of?

Listen to the texture when they move, it's not leather, it's a thick fabric of some sort

SE never said what they're made of because... it's not really important

and if it becomes important they won't spoil it

canonically they're similar to the keyblade armour though

How so? Because I thought the coats were just something MX cooked up to let him safely travel through the darkness, and then Xemnas made a bunch more when he came to exist because he remembered that (and also made a Mickey Mouse shaped one for absolutely no good reason whatsoever) that anyone can use. Keyblade armor is magic armor that only Keyblade Masters can use (presumably) that's existed since at least the Keyblade War, right?

The cloaks serve a similar function to keyblade armour, they both are made of a material that protects the wearer from darkness

I believe it's implied at some point that the cloaks were inspired by the armour

I suppose, though I don't remember ever hearing that the cloaks inspired the armor, and it really seems like a stretch given that they look nothing alike (and in real world terms, the cloaks were introduced into the series long before the armor). Also, if they serve the same purpose, why did MX ditch his armor for the cloak? I honestly can't remember why he doesn't use his armor ever.

Cloaks were all throughout CoM, armor was in literally the last few seconds of KH2. That's at least a year apart.

I always assumed leather since the texture looks like it. The sound they make does make it sound like it's a heavy cloth, but I'm chalking that up to them not wanting to ruin dramatic scenes with a bunch of squeaking.

I made mine with leather because of the durability and comfort. Heavy cloths look better, but the leather just seemed more pratical. My friend made her's out of cloth and she often gets rather hot and has to change.

You know, I've actually never stopped to think about this.  I would presume that the cloaks are made of leather, but taking into account what the other members have said here, plus the sound the cloaks make, they're probably a heavy fabric type of material.  Who knows? :O

implying KH2 wasn't being made at the same time as CoM

Easy Organization 13 coats are made of darkness.

That doesn't seem very conducive to protecting the wearer from darkness

That doesn't remotely matter- a short trailer that was likely made toward the tail end of development briefly showing armor is hardly comparable to a game where every main villain wears the same cloak- but even if it did, KHFM had the Unknown boss fight, which you might recall as being a fight against a guy in the black coat. That game was released in '02, years before Keyblade armor was ever brought in to KH.

The cloaks protect the wearer from darkness, but don't cut them off entirely. The Keyblade Armor cut's the wearer off from darkness, to the point where they can even feel it's presence. They look like leather, but sound and move like cloth. Maybe faux leather? You know, pleather? I have a coat like that, it looks like leather, but it's not as heavy so it moves more freely and rustles when I move.

Maybe some kind of trench coat material?

That makes enough sense for me.

Also, I'm leaning toward them not being made of leather- in my head, the cloaks are this incredibly plush material that's super comfortable and breathes really well, and that's why everyone keeps using the damn things. I mean, really, can you imagine wearing a full leather outfit in the middle of the desert or in Carribean sea?

Ha, I was actually editing when you sent this. Look at the revised post, I think it makes even more sense

Ha ha, yeah, we're on the same track. I have a black jacket like that too- my favorite jacket ever, actually- that resembles leather but is much more comfortable and fits much better than any leather jacket I've ever come across.

Hell, maybe MX and Xemnas went to the RoD and hunted down some Heartless, skinned them and made jackets out of them- like Evil Darkness Leather, y'know? (Unless they're goin' around different worlds hunting cows for their skin, which is significantly less impressive.)

Xemnas Eyelashes.

The tears of us fans waiting for KH3.
