Thoughts on Final Fantasy: The 4 Heroes of Light?

Featured Replies

I tried it multiple times

could never get into it

it felt... I dunno... cheap

not cheap like unfair, cheap like made with subpar resources

It was an under appreciated gem on the DS.

Sure it had some issues like targeting in battle. The visuals can also be hit or miss depending on your preferences, it's very storybook-esque. Regardless, I found the story enjoyable. The gameplay was cool (for spoiler purposes I'll avoid why some aspects of gameplay was neat) in that you could customise a lot of your gear, whether it was armour/weapons. I also enjoyed the battle system, it auto-targeted enemies though and depending on certain situations you might find it annoying (although the game would attack the enemy that had the highest threat in most cases). There is lots of jobs to choose from for quite a bit of variety, I think the system was called the Crown System where you essentially changed your hat and you were a new class.

Overall, it's still a game that I think fondly of when it comes to the DS. I picked it up and was not disappointed.

I thought it was hit and miss. It's based off of the really old FF games moreso than Bravely Default, so it suffered a lot of those problems too. Like temporary party members taking your equipment with them when you leave, no real clear direction on where to go, random difficulty spikes, etc. The music was hella legit, though, especially since it used a mix of NES and more realistic instrument samples, plus there were day / night themes for towns and overworld areas. In fact I would say some of the songs are on the same level as Bravely Default's.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mG5QgG5zPs4

I wanted to like it, but couldn't get into it. It had way too many difficulty spikes, and a ton of grinding to get abilities that were pretty much necessary if you wanted to do well. The music was good, and I liked the story, but the gameplay was too frustrating for me to play much of it.

I played the game for about 4 hours. I wouldn't say it's bad - but the gameplay just didn't suite my tastes.

It's one of those games u have to play then forget about when stuck, then play again. Lee always thought it was a little creepy of how the characters turned into ghosts when they ran out of hp's, but dunno...guess that's just Lee's feelings.

Never play it.

Why?

Why?

Because I never found it not even FFXII: Renevant Wings.

I found XII's sequel on eBay last year.
