Xehanort said that all the keyblades were indeed forged in image of the X-Blade back in the keyblade war. Probably the Foretellers were the blacksmiths, or something alike. But since the end of the keyblade war and the dissapareance of 99% of keyblade wielders, the ones that exist right now are probably keyblades long forged over

Keyblades have to come from somewhere, and I doubt they just manifested out of light and darkness, especially with Xehanort mentioning the forging. My guess is the creator/creators are either long dead or in some very well-hidden place, maybe somewhere in between the realms.

I have a feeling the next Saga will delve into the KH universe and it's mysteries much more than the Xehanort Saga ever did.

Keyblades get their appearance based on a person's hearts, manifested by keychains

Keyblades themselves have an incredibly boring back story

They're all just failed imitations of the X Blade that people made back before the Keyblade War.

Haha, I remember that idea. Good times. And I do believe it can be a good explanation for the Keyblade's origins.

It's only boring if you keep it in the confines of that explanation, which is not the full story obviously. They just don't magically appear like that. If they do, then how did Riku magically create Destiny's Embrace by collecting flowers in Destiny Islands? How do some of the Keyblades we've seen in games like KH1 and KH2 show up in the remnants of the Keyblade Graveyard in BBS before Sora and others used them? Why doesn't the boring ass Kingdom Key change into some weird new design when Riku had it for like five minutes (or however it normally takes to get through that part of KH1)?

You're right, keyblades don't jsut magically appear

people make them

lots of people

We have absolutely no clue how Riku ended up having Destiny's Embrace. For all intents and pruposes it shouldn't be possible. That said, the keyblade itself is based off Kairi's heart, as seen when Aqua gets that keyblade

None of the keyblades in the Graveyard are the same, they're all slighlty altered versions of existing designs. And the reason, quite frankly, is because they can't feasibly make a tonne of new keyblade designs just for background decoration.

The keyblade doesn't change based on who wields it, it changes based on the key chain. That's why Sora can wield a keyblade based off Aladin's heart, or whatever

Beyond that, it's worth noting that keyblades don't seem to have to be based off a person's heart, or at least not directly. Terra Aqua and Ventus' keyblades are based on their fighting styles, and it's implied that Mickey's Star Seeker was originally Yen Sid's keyblade

The original Keyblades were made thousands of years ago, sometime before the events of Chi. Some point between then and the War, they stopped being created from scratch, and begun to be passed down instead. Like the Keyblades our characters have now. Even Xehanort's Keyblade is inherited.

It's kind of sad, though. Because Keyblades are almost like living things themselves, you know? They rely on the Hearts of their owners to be useful. All of those dead Keyblades in the Graveyard.....still stuck in the ground, even after their owner's have faded away.......just goes to show you exactly how many Keybladers there were once upon a time.
