I'm not drawing a particular conclusion from these observations. They're more of a Break In Case of Fanfic Idea type of thing, but if you want something to think about (or ideas to put some FFIX elements in a KH fic), here are elements I've noticed KH and Final Fantasy IX have in common.
(Beware of some FFIX spoilers if you hate that kind of thing.)
Souls = heart
Just like KH's hearts, FFIX's souls are the source of life, and contain a person's memories. Pretty self-explanatory, but the major conflict ties into what happens if you interfere with the soul/heart.
Planet's crystal = world's heart
In FFIX, planets have their own crystal, the source of life. Souls return to the crystal upon their death, and the memories of that life accumulate inside the crystal. The more souls and memory that gather in the crystal, the more the crystal and the planet grow. This is similar to how KH's worlds have their own heart. FFIX's universe also has a crystal that's the source of all life, similar to how Kingdom Hearts is the heart of all worlds. Needless to say, bad things would happen if the Big Bads get a hold of it.
And just like peoples' hearts can split or merge, it's possible to merge a planet's crystal with another planet's, essentially overtaking that world (though FFIX's backstory demonstrates how this can backfire spectacularly). KH's world had been fragmented into smaller, separated worlds. I wonder if any of KH's worlds ever intentionally or inadvertently tried to meld with another world. With the emphasis on preserving world order, probably not. Halloween Town might get a kicker if they were suddenly dunked into Atlantica's seas.
Memories shaping form
FFIX has powerful creatures called Eidolons, which are summoned by (dur hurr) summoners. According to in-game lore, and certain books that only Japan gets to indulge in, Eidolons are created by the crystal to protect it. The accumulated memories and folklore that people cook up, which gather inside the crystal, are what gives the Eidolons themselves shape. For instance, the Eidolon called Shiva looks like an ice woman, but is said to have once looked like a pixie because folklore of the past described her as looking that way. Summoners were all about studying this concept.
In KH, too, a heart and its memories influence something's form and existence. It's also possible to create something without a soul, which will essentially be an empty husk until a soul/heart can fill it in. Sound familiar?
Anyway, I wasn't really going anywhere in specific with this. It's mainly just some thoughts to chew on, or maybe a plot bunny for a potential fic.
