Digital Spy asked the director of both games, Hajime Tabata if there were any plans to remaster the PlayStation Portable games, Crisis Core -Final Fantasy VII- or The 3rd Birthday. Sadly this is what he said.

"This kind of project [Final Fantasy Type-0 HD] requires a lot of thought to get right and we can't just go about remastering PSP games for the sake of it," he told Digital Spy.

"You need to put a lot of thought and effort into this kind of thing to make it something worthwhile.

"Type-0 was remastered because of audience demand, so there was a very strong reason for us to work on it and deliver it to players.

"It's not enough for us to simply want to do a remastered edition because we like a game, there has to be a stronger reason for it happening."

Tabata continued: "Crisis Core and 3rd Birthday have been released around the world already, so there's much less reason for the audience to want to see it released again.

"We always consider where the value is in doing a project like this and Type-0 had significant value where other games didn't have so much."

Tabata added that if there were ever any plans to revisit the two games, they would be "full remakes" rather than HD remasters.

"[We'd] go back and change everything from the graphics, to how loading works and everything else to make it fully native to the latest generation of hardware," he said.

"That might be worth doing, but a remaster probably wouldn't."

The 3rd Birthday is available on the PlayStation Store and as a result can be played on PlayStation Vita and PlayStation TV easily. Sadly, Crisis Core -Final Fantasy VII- is not available on the PlayStation Store due to licensing issues. As a result, Crisis Core can not be played on modern hardware and its platform was discontinued worldwide last year. Maybe if someone brought this up Tabata would re-consider.

Lol, talk about waste of resources. Why would they completely remake crisis core? What's the point of that? Not to mention it will anger the people who want VII remade...

Yep, it's not going to happen. Lol.

because Crisis Core is better than VII

because Crisis Core is better than VII

Oh well, to me, a simple spin-off or a side story will never surpass a main title. Not to mention it's nothing like VII.

That's one thing that bugs me about the series. People say it's changing and everything along with it. But, it doesn't work that way. If it wasn't for the "Final Fantasy" brand on some of these games they wouldn't sell half of what they did. Especially those without the "turn-based"/"ATB" combat system.

E.g Final Fantasy XV. The selling point shouldn't be the title. It should be the gameplay and the story and how well it's made. How many people will buy it just because it's the next main FF game?

Imagine if XIII wasn't named "Final Fantasy XIII". People wouldn't be defending it like they do.

sure they would, most complaints about FF13 stem from it not living up to the standards of a Final Fantasy game

if it was its own obscure little thing people wouldn't criticize it nearly as much

But aren't most people defending it with the excuse that "if you don't like it you're not a true FF fan"?

What a bummer indeed, but I'm not too greatly surprised.  I can understand The 3rd Birthday not seeing a remaster, but it surprises me on Crisis Core a little, since it was the spinoff of a major title.  There's so many gamers today who don't even have a PSP.  I fear that game is going to be forgotten entirely in time.

What about Dirge of Cerberus?  I know it was on a different console entirely, but I wonder if they've had any thoughts on porting it.  It would make more sense if they brought Crisis Core back before Cerberus, though; I think there's a lot more demand for it.

I think Dirge of Cerberus will be released as a PS2 Classic.

I have yet to hear that, and if anyone has said that then they are just mindless consumers who would probably call "all the bravest" the greatest thing for mobile gaming, but seriously, if anyone ever uses that "if you don't like this piece of crap that puts a stain on an otherwise solid reputation, then you're not a true fan" excuse then that's just them being dumb consumers who, instead of relaying how tremendous of an f'up the creators have created they just keep their mouths shut or worse spouting that this is the greatest thing ever. I'm not trying to bash people who actually like the game, great, good for them, but as a consumer you have a responsibility to yourself and fellow consumers to not take crap that is handed to you and eat it without Atleast discussing how the creators can even out their diet so that it doesn't smell so bad.

Well, I think they should remake the whole Compilation of Final Fantasy VII, which would include:

  • Before Crisis -Final Fantasy VII- Remake
  • Crisis Core -Final Fantasy VII- HD Remaster
  • Final Fantasy VII Remake
  • Final Fantasy VII Advent Children Complete (With the short movies, Last Order -Final Fantasy VII- & On the Way to a Smile: Episode Denzel)
  • Dirge of Cerberus -Final Fantasy VII- HD Remaster (With Dirge of Cerberus Lost Episode -Final Fantasy VII-)
  • New Final Fantasy VII game to conclude the Compilation

A gigantic waste of resources.
