Is Nintendo abandoning SNES Wii U VC games?

Posted

It looks like Nintendo is abandoning SNES games for the Wii U Virtual Console. Details here.

It honestly doesn't surprise me, they haven't seem to care about it for 3DS ever.

Man, then that means no Mother 3 for us then, huh?

Well, this is quite intimidating, and here we thought,"Hey, since Earthbound was released on virtual console, maybe Mother 3 will too." but instead we got 'DodgeBall' and 'Duck Hunt'.

As disappointing as this is, the're moving on to N64 and DS now. They still have a lot of GBA games to cover, too. I just wish they'd add more than one VC game a week...

Uh... Mother 3 is a GBA game. And Duck Hunt was included because the character with the same name was included in Super Smash Bros 4. :/

Ah. Okay, so Mother 3 could still come out. That's good. Thank you for clearing that up for me! :)

Sigh, it's really disappointing when this happens. How else are people supposed to play these kinds of games when the systems they originally ran on and the cartridges they came in are no longer in the market? They may as well just making designated retro systems that can be used to download those various classic games and play them, seeing how they seem to keep dropping classic digital games from each new generation of console. :/

To be fair, the Wii had a lot more SNES games, all of which are playable on the Wii U through Wii mode. All that's needed is a Classic Controller.

Well, at least they covered most great 1st party games I can think of and there's Wii mode for some other games

It's not like it's difficult to "cover" these games, they're just emulating them

However it's pretty difficult for most kids to actually buy those now since the Wii only accepts Wii Points, which aren't sold anymore. You can only buy those SNES games with a credit card

Well they have almost every main SNES game of Nintendo characters either on the Wii U already, or it was part of the Wii! So this really doesn't effect me, as all that interests me are chances for games that weren't on the Wii VC, and that includes DS titles.
