Damn, they cut out the part where the game locked up.

Yeah that was weird. At least they fixed it pretty quickly tho. :P

It looks like you'll have to traverse a very linear path with that driving section or else you'll be bumping into walls or going into instant death zones, thus ruining the flow of the sequence. To me it looks like they prioritized making it seem cinematic for a demo over actual practicality for the final product. Lots of trial and error in that sequence possibly, because it didn't look like the path you had to drive on was obvious enough to recognize at a glance. So to avoid numerous deaths will the player have to drive a few feet and then stop to look around and find the right path? That would really kill the intensity of the chase. Unless there are multiple paths to take in which case problem solved.

To be fair though I felt that Uncharted 2 had struck a fairly decent balance between gameplay and cinematics. This on the other hand looked like a full on cutscene almost.

I sort of agree. I always thought the games went from mostly gameplay and some cinematic in Drake's Fortune to almost entirely cinematic in Drake's Deception, with Among Thieves somewhere in the middle. Thing is, I never really liked the gameplay all that much in any of the games, so that's really a welcome change to me, and why Uncharted 3 is my favorite of the three.

That said, I'm not all that interested in Uncharted 4- I don't really like any of the games that much, and if it weren't for the fantastic acting, there'd be nothing in the games I like at all. 4 seems to have that same quality VA work, but as a game it doesn't seem much different than at least 3.

Well, that wasn't always true- I wouldn't call any of the Crash Bandicoot or Jak games nearly as cinematic as Uncharted or The Last Of US. It's only the past couple generations that they've gone the more scripted segment/quicktime event route.

I actually saw the conference in theaters and afterwards they had a post-conference show where they talked to some of the people behind the games, and they revealed that the path they took was one of many you can choose from, so it's not a set path you have to follow, just find your own way down.
