If that's not Riku or Ansem in monstro, then who's that?

Posted

If you beat the game and then completing Monstro afterwards, you get this alternative scene. (Head to 1:02)

The appearance of Riku is odd considering that he was supposed to be in the Realm of Darkness.

Words in the short conversation:

Sora: Wait. What are you--

Riku: What? You don't remember your best friend?

Sora: Liar! You're not Riku!

Riku disappears while a another paristye cage appears

This is very odd. It can't be Ansem possessing Riku, since Ansem got killed at the end of the game. Or even Riku since he's in "realm of darkness" Who is this Riku imposter?

Haha it's probably just a scene glitch. You were meant to see that scene before the game ends; the developers didn't anticipate you completing it after the game

Riku's body disappeared to the RoD after Sora beat his possessed form. So naturally he'd think that isn't the real Riku.

Peace!

If you want to get technical, even after beating the game, you get sent back to BEFORE the final fight. Because you can redo the last fight as many times as you want. So even if you do this after "beating" the game, it still takes place before the final boss fight. Hopefully my bad sentences make some sense xD

If they didn't anticipate it in some way, the scene wouldn't exist to begin with.

(According to Everglow, it activates at any point after you complete Neverland, so there's always that to keep in mind.)

It's a set of cutscenes that are meant to be non-story conflicting if you progress through the game in a different order than intended, like how if you go to Wonderland after beating Olympus Coliseum and Deep Jungle, instead of Alice being in the scene with the villains it's Snow White. However, the post-Ansem Riku Monstro scenes aren't explained that well.

However, some headcanon might calm any headaches you have. Perhaps the Riku we see in those alternate scenes is really the same Riku we saw in the black coat in the Dream Drop Distance version of Monstro. This only works because that Riku has yet to have been explained, though it is hinted at possibly being a past version Riku who was brought through time while he was being manipulated by Ansem and Maleficent, or the Riku Replica while he still held a grudge against Riku and Sora. In any case though, these alternate scenes in Monstro aren't meant to be canon anyway, so you can imagine it any way you want really. So long as you recognize the events happening in Monstro if you complete that world in the intended order as being the true order of events.
