Video games that have deep, little to no convoluted storylines

Posted

just what the titles says, what video game(s) do you think have a deep story. Keep in mind that kh doesn't count because the story is convoluted.

I think Tales of the Abyss has a very deep storyline. If you are interested in the storyline of the game, you should watch a walkthough of the game or actually play it. I recommend that you play the game. :)

Welp... Looking forward to pick Abyss back up then XDX (Still need to play Symphonia too. And Chrono Trigger. And FFVI-X)And if we're still talking Tales, I thought the Xillias had some pretty good themes going (especially with 2). (Idk if people find them convoluted though.)

Haha, don't worry. The story in Abyss is great. One of the best in the series. Just a whole lot of technobabble that's hard to grasp at first, and the last third is a bit...heavy on plot. xD And yeah the Xillias definitely had great themes going. Not sure how anyone can find them convoluted. They were pretty darn straightforward.

Well, you never know, with all of that spirit mumbo jumbo xP

How is Tales of the Abyss not convoluted? Cutscenes plagued with a bunch of technobabble that takes ages to understand and is there just to make the game seem deeper than it is. Villains that should have been dead come back and the last third of the game is literally the party backtracking from town to town trying to make sense of what's happening.

Anyway to answer the question:

Kingdom Hearts 1, Final Fantasy VI-IX, Xenoblade, Tales of Symphonia, TellTale's The Walking Dead, Bioshock, Chrono Trigger...

All of these, too.

And then they throw in all teh feels on you too xDx

Unless there's some huge mindfrick at the very end of the game, I didn't think Xenoblade was that convoluted. Yeah, there were twists and stuff, but it didn't seem too crazy. But maybe that's because I took big breaks while getting through the game and I don't remember much xD

Also, yaaaaaay Silver, you're alive~

If you can roll in it, then it's deep enough.

Mystery Dungeon still gets me depressed, all these years after I first played the original game. ;_;

I'm not entirely sure what you mean by a deep storyline, but I'm gonna go with Dark Souls.

It's a simple premise -you are a zombie, there are giant things, go kill them- with little story being told, but it hints at so much underlying lore through item descriptions and visual design.

For me it's Persona 4 and Persona 3

Those games almost revolves around the same themes Kingdom Hearts usually discuss like bonds, friendship and so on......but it handled it elegantly and perfectly with themes and characters that the player can relate to.It's really deep but at the same time it doesn't go to the "pretentious and convoluted bullshit" territory that the Kingdom Hearts series suffered from with the handheld entries.

This is just my opinion though and it's by no means a fact or anything so I hope no one gets offended by it

Thank God I'm not the only Persona fan on this site ^_^

I'm a Persona fan too lol. I'm still trying to finish up on Persona 3 and 4, haha :P.

Pokémon Mystery Dungeon , Rogue Galaxy , Okami , Persona/Devil summoner/ Devil Survivor , Legend of Spyro . I interpreted deep as emotional or engaging story so these are just a few I can think of that do not have convoluted storylines.

Digimon World Dawn and Dusk. I played through Dawn, and I have to say, I really liked how WaruSeadramon's role played later on in the game. And the story behind the virus that was trying to take over the Digital World was pretty important as well. No human being should be allowed to say Digimon is convoluted, even if they have watched all the series, played every game, and spin-off game. This series is no joke. Trust me. It gets pretty dark after season 2. There's actual death after season 2, Wormmon's death was pretty obvious that he was gonna return, but real deaths where they don't come back as early, like Leomon's death, Damemon's death, and way worse things. •.• way worse...

Lmao wont completely call myself a Persona fan since I didn't play the first 2 (which were radically different anyways) and the 3rd one I got pushed away by the outdated look and didn't hook my right in like with P4 since I like the whole solving the mystery murder cases. So excited for P5 though. But yeah P4+ im good.
