Was it ever explained why Ansem is pretty much the only Heartless to actually keep his human shape? It's been bothering me knowing that all other Organization members' heartless are just normal ones. And even Sora's heartless was just a pureblood or does Anti-form Sora count as his heartless?Edit: Nevermind I just found another forum post that said why.

The strength of the heartless a person produces depends on the amount of darkness in their heart. Since Xehanort's level of darkness is really high, his heartless was powerful compared to Sora's heartless because Sora has very little darkness in his heart. Ansem SoD obtained that "human" form after he possessed Riku, because before that he just reduced to a heart i.e. his appearance was unknown to us. And regarding Anti-Form, Sora is able to go into that form due to the fact the he became a heartless.

I just imagined Billy Zane being just a Shadow or something underneath the brown robe

Technically he didn't get to keep his body. Kh DDD revealed that he set aside his body & was basically a walking heart in a brown robe that could time travel. He didn't get a human shape until he took over Riku's body at hollow bastion & shaped it into a form that looked similar to his human form(xehanort)

I read somewhere that Ansem is a human because AX gave his heart to the darkness willingly, which makes sense but what Yuya mentioned is also possible. Both are valid I'd say.

Not that he willing gave his heart to darkness but that he willingly lost his heart. Yes that is indeed true. They were said to be the only two to have been a heartless and a walking heart with a human form.( outright said in game in CoM by Axel)  But they were for diff reasons still. Sora was given his human form once Kairi hugged and purified him. Ansem got his human form when he took over Riku's body. We do not know what he looked like under the cloak or that whole deal with the cloak lol He also was a true heartless and never purified like Sora. ( Sora was no longer a heartless once purified but instead a walking heart)

This basically answers the question. Depending on how strong one's darkness is, it could take on the form of a little pureblood or become human like.
