Plus, both he and the Genie exist at the same time in the games, so unless one is a future Genie or something (not entirely implausible, just a little too convoluted to me) I don't think it can be considered canon as it stands now. It almost could have been though.

October 17, 201510 yr Plus, would Genie really be dumb enough to let Jafar out of his lamp? Unless he suffers from memory loss like everyone in Atlantic. Yeah, I really feel like they should have handled Atlantica's story better. It's like nobody learned anything from the first game, Ursula is just there again (closest thing to an explanation is that the Journal says "through powers of Darkness, Ursula was back"....so I'm just going to go out on a limb and say Maleficent did it, because if she had enough free time to bring Oogie back then why not?), Ariel just doesn't remember that she tricked her before, and Triton is just as over protective and strict as he was in the first game, the only difference being that he trusts Sora and the others more. But humans? Oh no, certainly not, they're WORSE than aliens from another planet, they're the worse kind of outsider. Seriously, he knew Sora wasn't a merman so after being assured of how good HE is why is it that he still can't trust humans from the SAME FREAKING WORLD AS HIS!? The whole story is just riddled with plot holes. It's not to say that I wish it was never included in KH2, I just wish it was handled better. The story could still work if those kinds of issue were addressed, if Triton had more of a reason to favor Sora yet still distrust the humans of his world, be more explicit about how Ursula came back, have Ariel be more weary and cautious around Ursula, and for pete's sake actually acknowledge that the events of the first game actually happened beyond the fact that "oh, the Heartless aren't here anymore. That's nice"! I'm not going to mention the gameplay, everyone beats that to death, I will say though that I would have been willing to put up with anything if the story had just worked better.
