The backstory

 

Gems. The dominant species of the galaxy. Both their namesake and their bodies stem from the gemstone found somewhere on their bodies. Even then, their bodies are just illusions, hosts to their gems and easily replaceable should they be damaged or destroyed so long as their gem is intact. When a Gem is “poofed” as this temporary death is popularly referred to, another Gem can contain the vulnerable gemstone in a bubble of energy to halt the regenerative process. Gem’s are capable of many other great feats. They can temporarily change their form at will, usually returning to the standard from they chose back when they were a simple gemstone. Gems are also capable of summoning a personalized weapon from their stone. Beyond that even, a number of gems have their own unique abilities. The greatest skill of a Gem, however, is fusion. Through the power of bonds, two Gems can become so close that they are able to become a single Gem that is more powerful than the sum of their parts. Usually performed through a dance, the stronger the Gems’ love for each other, the longer the fusion can be sustained.

 

Gems have no means of reproducing, and being prone to conflict, Gem population is very unstable. To maintain their species they invented a kind of drill-like machine called Injectors to plant gemstones into the crust of planets so that other Gems may be born from the planet’s life force. Unfortunately, controversy erupted between the Gems who cherished all life and the Gems that cared most for their own species.

 

Disclaimer and Rules

 

This is going to be an open world(s) character driven RP. The main conflict will be over the Injectors as well as personal quarrels between Gem characters. With no central linear plot, it’ll be hard to determine the lifespan and frequency of posts within the roleplay. Nevertheless, I hope we can all enjoy a little open-endedness here. 

 

-RULES-

 

-General KH13 Roleplaying rules apply. No overpowered characters. No killing without permission. Etc.

-This thread itself will be pretty important as the actual roleplay occurs. Come here to request permission for kills, ideas for planets to add to the Universe Atlas, or fusion concepts

-Right. Fusion. That’s the real kicker this roleplay has. If your character is bonding with another’s then fusion might just become possible. Talk with the maker of that character here or over PM and come up with a fusion of your characters. This whole new character can either be controlled by the two of you alternatively, or have one person take charge overall or per fusion. It’s really up to you.

-Multi Fusions. Now. Since Gem Fusions are their own beings, they are able to fuse as well. That being said, I won’t refuse to allow Multi Fusions, but it may get rather confusing as it goes on. So just be careful. 

-Please specify the planet (and character if applicable) you're on before posting

-If you have to drop out, please try and warn us ahead of time so you can work in whatever leads to your character leaving the story

-Put your favorite color on the bottom of your signup sheet to assure you’ve read these

Name: Must be named after a gem/mineral/crystal

Preferred name: Optional. Makes it a little more personal than what they are.

Appearance: All gems are technically genderless. Use whichever pronouns you prefer, and feel free to swap between masculine and feminine looks if you end up being poofed. What was almost death could be a chance to reinvent yourself. Can be a picture and/or a description. Include shape and location of gemstone.

Weapon: Can be summoned from your gemstone at will. Have fun with this. Try not to get too complicated though. This isn’t RWBY.

Abilities: Go ahead. Be as creative or as simple as you like. Just don’t make yourself too overpowered

Backstory: Completely optional. Just to add a little more depth if you’d like.

Fusions: These are to be edited in once you form bonds within the RP

Just a doodle I made in class one day. Color scheme is shades of orange.

Weapon: Buckler. Able to deflect most attacks and projectiles. Can also inflict considerable concussive and occasionally piercing damage. Not directly attached and can be slightly adjusted in terms of positioning.

Abilities: Telekinetic abilities over his buckler, but also able to produce a slime-like substance that he’s capable of liquifying and solidifying at will. 

Backstory: An interplanetary wanderer. Amber has spent his entire existence going from planet to planet. It wasn’t until he encountered the installation of the Injectors led by other Gems where he had seen others of his species. Unaware of the cultural differences, he’s rather distant, only associating with those he finds trustworthy enough.

Gems are formed in the ground, using energy from the world around them to be formed! And their bodies are sort of like... Tangible holograms, sort of. I'm not good at explaining things, but there's actually a couple of official videos on the subject:

Weapon: An old staff primarily used for walking and getting around that also doubles as a powerful weapon for casting lightning magic.

Abilities: Strengths: They are fully and completely blind in both eyes, but in return, Star's other senses have been heightened. They can hear distant noises in the distance, or touch and taste certain colors. Weaknesses: They are more of the defensive type, and don't favor moving around too much. They also know without their staff, they would be completely hopeless.

Backstory: Star is a somewhat precious gem. They were born blind because of being plucked out a bit too early one humble morn. However, despite all of this, they have lead themselves to have a decent life, not letting their blindness get in the way. They are a lot older than they look, and tend to speak and act overly-sophisticated and calm most of the time. They do not particularly like to be around other gems, since they feel that they are of no importance. They have never really known compassion or friendship because of how much they kept to themselves. On personality, they are, as mentioned before, very sophisticated and somewhat emotionless. Star is very educated on gems and their culture. They are also devoid of a sense of humor, yet has many quirks because of their disability. They interact with others in a cold or sarcastic manner, but usually means well. Star's motivations and goals are to secretly know what friendship is and to travel outside their homeworld.

This may be a rather silly question, but do humans inhabit the planets as well?  Could Gems see these people as a threat?  Also, are cities pretty much like our modern day ones?  Finally, can we travel between worlds?

Gems will be the only sentient species present. So no civilization. Interplanetary travel is possible using teleportation technology installed by the gems. My bad. Gems can also go the long way since they can survive in the vacuum so yeah

Gotcha.  Thanks so much for clarifying.  So when you say that there is no civilization, does this mean that there are no modern cities or technology?  I'm now wondering what their homes are like, if there is no civilization and no modern science.  Hmm . . . .

Well you see, in the show, Homeworld is never shown. We don't know what it's like, all we do know is that it is very high tech, and they do not grow Gems on Homeworld. Homeworld sends out Licensed Kindergarteners to install and tend to Injectors on other planets, until those said planets are completely dry.

Thank you for this description.  It would seem my lack of Steven Universe knowledge is showing.  So, to ensure I understand this correctly: Homeworld is a planet where humans--or other Gems--live and they're sending injectors onto these other planets to create more gems and thus draining the life source of these planets.  However, there is no civilization or society that live on these planets, but rather just wandering Gems?  I think this makes sense, though I am wondering how these gems are living without modern science, or even how they're creating clothing, paper, homes, et cetera without a society.

Well, typically, Homeworld doesn't care if there is life on other planets or not. If they're in reach, they'll do what they have to in order to do their job. That's the main plot of the show, beginning 6,000 years ago on Earth. When Gems first arrived. There was a 1000 year war to eventually send the Homeworld Gems away and leave Earth to the humans.As for Homeworld itself, we don't know that much. I think Gems are naturally occurring there, so there is no need to use injectors. Normally growing gems wouldn't waste so much of the planets life, but homeworld gems prefer doing things much fasterd, thus why the injectors are used on other planets, making gem production mucheck faster.

Probably for the best that we specify the planets we're on in the beginning of our posts. Just thought of that.

So the Gems are essentially becoming world-breeching parasites like Lavos, digging into planets to spawn more of themselves?  Intriguing.  Also, I'll incorporate that world thing into my post.
