Rain pelted Gotham as the sound of sirens and gunfire echoed through it's deserted streets. Scarecrow's gas threat had cleared out most of the population a while ago, leaving only the extreme ends of law keepers and law breakers to populate the city. After Batman's death, the Police Department tried to push out and retake the city, but suffered losses at the hands of the Arkham Knight's militia. Now cooped up in their station, the cops and the few good people of Gotham left pray for a miracle.
{Batgirl & Oracle}
Oracle watched drone movement from her control room on board the sub she had tripped out be friends. She would have to thank Clark again for his contribution on that front, and on short notice too. With a few key strokes, she pulled up a build up of drones out front of the Wayne Enterprises building.
"They're looking to take Lucius Fox and what ever tech is left in the R&D lab." She explained. "Lucius is keeping the drones out, but troops are moving in. I need you to get in there, save Lucius and torch the R&D Lab."
Pulling on her last boot, Cassandra stood up and walked over to Barbara's side.
"How many?" She asked, watching the screen intently.
"12 soldiers." Barbara answered promptly. "No details on troop composition."
"No problem." Cassandra said. "Studied them all."
Barbara nodded, then checked the sub's progess.
"Alright, we are about ready to surface." She said.
She gave her young protégé a worried look.
"Are you ready?" She asked, concern in her voice.
Cassandra didn't answer at first as she pulled out her mask and put it on.
The young vigilante placed a reassuring hand on Barbara's shoulder. She wasn't good with words. That wasn't how she was taught to communicate. Actions were better. Barbara patted Batgirl's hand.
"Be safe out there." She said.
"That is a...um..." Batgirl began.
"Yes, telling you to be safe while I'm sending you out there is a contradiction." Barbara said with a chuckle.
"Still try." Batgirl said confidently.
Removing her hand, Batgirl walked back to the launch hatch of the sub. As she went, she pulled her hood over here head. It was time to go to work.
Off Miagani Island, what looked like a manhole cover emerged from the water a few inches. It irised open and a moment later, Batgirl was rocketed out, using a system similar to the Bat Mobile's launching mechanism. At the apex of her flight, Batgirl aimed a grapple gun and fired it for a balcony on Wayne Tower. Reeling in fast, she detached the line as it finished reeling, then vaulted over the railing of the balcony, landing lightly on her feet. Without a moment's pause, she walked up to the door leading into the tower, which opened before her. It was time to hunt.
{Bane}
In Chinatown, a trio of Arkham Knight soldiers ran for their APC. They had lost four of their comrades in an ambush a few seconds before. If they were fast, they could make it to the APC, and back to the Knight to report. Just a few more meters. When the fastest of the three reached the vehicle, he swiftly attempted to throw the door open, which set off an explosive placed within. The fastest died instantly, the other two were thrown back.
After a moment, one tried to get up but was riddled with bullets before he had moved much. The last soldier remained stock still for a moment, then he rolled to his right a few times, ending up on his back. He fired a three round burst at where he thought the shots had come from. A large figure came out of the shadows from his right, moving fast. He tried to move his gun around to shot the charging figure, but when he got it around, the figure stomped on his arm, crushing bones against the street. The soldier yelled in pain and was almost immediately yanked up by his collar, so that his face was level with Bane's.
"Hola." Bane said, savagely ripping the gun from the soldier's hand, breaking a few fingers along the way.
The soldier whimpered.
"I would like you to extend my congratulations to the Arkham Knight for killing the Bat." The big Mastermind said calmly. "But tell him that his time is up. Gotham belongs to me. He can either give it too me now, or wait until I have broken him for it. His choice."
Bane let go of the soldier, who slumped to the ground.
"My boys will see you to one of the Knight's bases. Feel better."
Bane walked away, the sounds of his men getting the wounded soldier up and pushing him along his way. He would undoubtably get more wounds from this treatment, but Bane did not care. It wasn't going to work on the Knight, he knew, but there was some satisfaction to be had for getting members of an enemy gang to tell their boss of the impending doom that awaited them.
