Does KH3's Graphics Look...Fanmade To You?

Posted

I mean, the scene where Kairi and Riku are talking with Yen Sid looks like something that a random fan went and made. Yes, I know that the game is still in development and the graphics will improve over time. But the graphics in that scene (as well as for KH Chi Back Cover) look like something fan-made to me with its graphics. I mean the old KH shader graphics engine looks miles better than the new Kingdom Shader graphics engine. Does anyone else feel this way about KH3's graphics engine? Again, I know the game is still early in development and there are a least some parts of the game that looks good graphically (Twilight Town, the Tangled world) but I seriously hope that they don't look like that when the full game releases.

I agree! At first they said we'd get graphics like this: Posted Image

Then we got this, and we were like "okay, it's in early development and it's not in glorious 1080p HD and it's looking good".

So could anybody tell me how we ended up with this?

I mean is the game still in early development or something? How long does that "early development" thing last? And don't even get me started on KHBBS0.2.  I must say that the environments are FIRE, (in X Back cover too, imo). I think they look really good. But they need to fix those character models.

I don't think the engine is a good excuse. I mean have you seen what Unreal Engine 4 can do? Look at FF7 remake. I'm sure they can achieve what they promised when they were still on Luminous when it comes to character models( As I said, environments are FIYA!) If not, well too bad. I'm still going to play the game so...

Yeah, I've been hesitating saying this because I don't wanna look like a whiner, but yes I think the graphics could use some improvement. Well, its the character models that need it; the environments look absolutely beautiful! I mean, Donald, Goofy, and Yen Sid look okay, but everyone else looks... off to say the least. Now, I know graphics aren't the most important thing in an rpg, but hopefully they'll be fixed before the game comes out. If they aren't though, I still want the game! The only way KH3 would be completely ruined for me is if the story is awful or unsatisfying (and the gameplay being broken too I guess) but I'm not too worried about that.

I've been saying that against my friends since the announcement in 2013 LOL.

Lol, me too! xD

Yes thank you! I thought I was crazy cause everyone thought they looked amazing. The characters look like they are made of play-doh or plastic. And some characters look way off. Yen sid looked like he had a bad spray tan and something is terribly off with mickeys face! The light also hits everything oddly and makes things have a sheen driving home the "plastic" look. I'm so used to square Enid making such beautiful games.... This is really disappointing. I was hoping they would go for something more like the openings and endings in kh2, bbs, or 3D. Those were beautiful. I don't know what this is, but it's not kingdom hearts. They should have stuck with the luminous engine.... It looked way better in that trailer.

I'm weirdly ok with that. I'd rather have a nice looking game then a weird plastic looking one. It almost looks like textures haven't even been applied to the characters.

Honestly, I think that Kingdom Hearts III's graphics look spectacular!  The worlds look vibrant, the enemies look as awesome as they did in previous entries of the series, and the battle animations and little details really shine through!  I bet the game will look even more spectacular once it finally releases!

And I really don't have a problem with 2.8's graphics either!  Everything looks awesome to me!  Well, Mickey's the only character I see that looks a little off, but maybe that's just me, ya know?  But yeah, I think that the graphics will look even more amazing when the time comes for 2.8 and III to release! :3

They're not amazing yet in my opinion granted they're not polished yet and the Unreal Engine 4 takes a long time to render.

Therefore I'm not really worried right now. I'm sure once it comes out it'll look fine, and that being said it doesn't look that bad to me personally. (I kind of like how saturated everything is but I digress)

For now I'd say just give it some time!

Everything looks great... except for the characters. Yen Sid could be better, but he's okay. Riku & Kairi look TERRIBLE! It might just be because they're still in their KH2 attire, but I doubt it. Mickey looks very uncanny :/But maybe we're just not use to it. When Square released that picture of Sora in the Astro Blaster, I thought he looked pretty bad. But when I saw the same moment in motion during the trailer, I thought it looked great! Maybe Riku & Kairi looked weird because they were just standing still?

Yes, I've been saying this since E3. It looks cheaper and more cartoon-like. Kind of amusing since Nomura kept the exact same art style from KH1 to 2.5.

I second this notion. 0.2 is a demo anyway, so, it's a gauge as to what fans want and don't want for Kingdom Hearts 3.

I doubt it. Nomura isn't big on feedback to my understanding.

I disagree. Remember the backlash that 358/2 Days cinematic had because it had no battle scenes? that feedback was provided to improve upon the cinematic of Re:Coded for the 2.5 collection.

Okay, one example. We'll see if he listens to feedback for large titles.
