Hey guys, I recently just got a Wii-U for Christmas. So far it was working great, however just recently I came across a huge problem; my Wii-U will not stay connected to my internet. It's ridiculous, especially since everything else works seemingly fine. I don't know why it can't just stay connected, and it's making playing games like Slatoon online impossible. I'm very aggravated and I just want to play my game. I've read that this happens to other people too. Any help? I can't move my router nor can I mess with it (my parents are already pissed after I had to reboot it like ten thousand times for it to not work.)

Strange.  I've never had this issue, thankfully, though it sort of sounds like an issue with the router rather than then Wii U.  Does it connect to the Internet at all, or does it pretend to establish a connection only to show that it's disconnected moments later?  Do you find out that it's disconnected when you go to try to play and you receive an error message?  The only thing that I can think of is that the Internet connect with the Wii U to the modem isn't strong enough, as my friend had similar issues to yourself and that's what she discovered.

Sorry, that probably wasn't entirely helpful, though this is my best guess to the issue.  I hope you get it figured out, because a brand new Wii U should ultimately have access to the Internet!  Hopefully others on here will have some other insight or suggestions to try out.

EDIT: Have you tried other games with online mode to see if it encounters a similar issue?  It might be Splatoon in general that is having difficulty and requires a strong connection.  Does the Eshop work?

How many other devices do you have connected to the internet too? Just leaving your CPU on, plus a PS3/PS4, 3DS, etc. ALL at once can cause a disruption in the electronic waves.

Just a thought, I could be wrong. :/

Rock on!

Are you sure that it's just your internet? Splatoon works fine for the most part, but disconnections can come up from time to time. It might be the game or Nintendo's servers that are having an issue. If you can, it might also help to try to contact Nintendo Support and see if they have any suggestions.

I also had that same problem with mine and because of it, my Wii u was left in the dust but then I finally found the solution, I hope it works for you

1. Go into connection types, Hit "Manual Configuration"

2. Input your SSID

3. Input the correct security type, this is key.

4. Put your password in properly

5. For ip address "Do not auto obtain".

6. open up cmd in your computer, type in ipconfig

7. Now input that ip address but add 10 to the last number so "192.168.0.1" will be entered as "192.168.0.11"

8. Enter the rest of your info inside such as subnet mask and default gateway exactly as you see it in your ipconfig.

9. Now hit next, hit configure now for your DNS. When asked about DNS hit "Dont auto obtain".

10. For the first server put in 8.8.8.8

11. For the second server put in 8.8.4.4

12. Hit Next, when asked about a proxy hit no proxy

13. Leave mtu as the default

14. it should work, if not check the ip and that it is the internet ip + 10. Good luck

If it's a router issue, then rebooting it won't help. It would probably be better to get a new one or just have a wired connection, assuming that is possible.

Also, this. Traffic does indeed affect an Internet connection, especially if multiple devices are connected to the same router. If there are always a lot of people connecting to the same router, you'd would probably need to invest in one that can handle that sort of traffic.

This is just a suggestion, so think it through first. It would probably be best if other devices are suffering from the same problem.

I don't think it's the router. It's a year old and my wifi provider said everything should be working fine. It appears it's only the Wii-U that it's doing this and it does this even when I'm home along or playing at night when the only thing that's connected to wifi is my phone. Even then, there's a special separate wifi that's only for consoles ad whatnot so that shouldn't be it.

It connects to the Internet then disconnects immediately after. I haven't tested it out with other games yet, but it appears that Eshop works fine (although downloading things may just connect then disconnect until it's finished)

Although I don't like to trust ISPs when it comes to routers, it sounds like an issue with the console itself. Have you called Nintendo Support and told them of this issue?

Well it's either a toss up between it being an issue with your router or a manufacturing fault in the Wii U.  I've never had problems with my Wii-U, when I changed rooms (further away from the modem), the signal wasn't good enough for any of my consoles, but I invested in a Wifi Extender since I knew I was too far away from it(£35).  You could try resetting your router if you haven't in case the channel you're on has a lot of traffic (turning it off and on makes it look for the best channels when it restarts, mine was slow on channel 3 and when I restarted it it was going grand on channel 40).  You can also set the channel you use if you log into your wifi provider (mine is Virgin). Other than that, you could try bringing it to a friends house and testing how it connects with their connection, and if it persists send back to Nintendo for repair, if not, then the issues with the router.

actually i heard nintendo's doing some work on their servers. So a couple of online games might be down a bit. i forgot how long though.
