Kawaki states that Boruto will soon join his father as it looks like the two are reaching the final stages of their battle. The village is destroyed, and if he was around, I'm sure Naruto would be the one fighting this kid instead of leaving it to his son that might not even be a Chunin by that point. It's safe to say that Naruto's dead during that battle.

 

 

That doesn´t guarantee that Naruto died, Kawaki could have believed that he killed him when in reallity he just simple  knocked him out/left him unconsious.

 

 

I've been seeing this pop up recently so I thought I'd just talk about it. It's about certain reactions to the opening pages of the first chapter basically confirming that Naruto has died. People are saying that this negates the entire point of Naruto's story and him becoming Hokage, that being attaining peace in the Shinobi World.
 
This is completely bogus. Do people not get that conflict is eternal? It doesn't matter if Naruto helped unify the Five Nations, there's always going to be a spanner in the works. The point wasn't about eternal peace, it was about peace within the powers that be, that being the Five Nations, as they have pretty much been the triggers for the majority of conflicts that have shown dissonance between the Shinobi World as a whole, i.e. the World Wars. Them now working together assures that the conflicts of the past, including those started by Orochimaru, Madara, Obito, the Akatsuki, etc. will not happen again. But even so, being a shinobi, as defined by the series, is to endure hardships, so why negate that philosophy by leaving no more hardships to endure?
 
I mean, how is Boruto supposed to develop as our protagonist if he's just exposed to a world without conflict? And how are any of the other next generation shinobi going to to the same? In fact, killing off Naruto is probably going to be one of the most grueling hardships that he has to endure in general, and he'll probably go through a lot more too, but even if he does, it will be just. Even if Naruto wasn't killed off, in-universe, he would have had to go away eventually, and it would be up to the next generation to carry on his ideals from there.

We continue our summary of the events of Boruto The Movie going from Boruto asking Sasuke to train him, Sasuke finally accepting, Boruto and his team all agreeing to take the Chunin Exams together, as well as the introduction of the Otsutsuki villains Momoshiki and Kinshiki. I was expecting some more diversions to be made like last chapter, but I guess for now it's just going the straight and narrow. Although considering how quick the Chunin Exams transpired in the movie, there might be room for expansion there, especially with the Sand Trio since they were featured heavily in promotional art. Overall, it was a decent chapter. The Sasuke vs. Kinshiki was well drawn, and the art style in general was too.

I don't really have a whole lot to say, given that this was just repeat from the movie. It looks like we're speeding through this content though, so it hopefully won't be too much longer before we get on to something new. I'm still curious to see what leads up to the events in the very beginning of the first chapter... But hey, we got some action scenes, foreshadowing, and Sakura showing... that side again. Still a good chapter in my mind.

 

As stated previously in this thread, "The Day Naruto Became Hokage" one-shot was given an animated OVA that was released alongside Japan's DVD release of Boruto: Naruto The Movie. The DVD hasn't actually been released in Japan yet, but the OVA has been floating around the internet for some time now and there are now english subbed versions available to watch.

My thoughts:

 

 

Seeing the new Sand Trio being introduced in the beginning pages of this chapter was enthralling. Considering how prominently they've been shown in artwork, I'm eager to see how the manga delves into their characters. Seeing Metal was neat too. Other than that, not much to add unless you're completely new to the movie as this is where we see the first part of the Chunin Exams. Boruto continues his internal conflict, of course, and that's about it. I'm curious to see if the movie will just get wrapped up in the coming chapters or continue to have expansions because at this point, other than the few scenes we've gotten, it seems like the story is progressing with the movie at its natural pace just so it can get by it and onto new material.

Looks like I was right about what I said the last time. The manga seems to be going along the events of the Boruto movie as quickly as it can, though really anything can happen up until we actually do get to the end of the movie's events at this point. Still, I enjoyed this chapter, mostly because I forgot all about the scene where Naruto visits Boruto in his room. That was such an integral scene to the central narrative of the movie that It would have been a real shame if it was cut, but thankfully, the most important details are all kept in this version of the story anyway.

I'd definitely say that Ikemoto's art style is really improving. You can tell that he's getting used to the series now, and it's starting to feel more familiar.

It seems like the most added-in moments are done for the new Sand Siblings, so it's safe to say they'll probably be really important or at least more heavily featured later on. Also, according to the translation, Shinki addresses Gaara as his "foster father" rather than just his father... I guess Gaara stayed a virgin after all.

I can sure as Hell understand why Shinki was adopted. Kankuro probably saw him and told Gaara, "Yeah yeah, get that one".

Still more of the same, but this is honestly one of my favorite sequences from the original film, where Boruto pretty much comes into his final node of character development, and I was pumped to see him, Sasuke, and the Kage get ready to fight the Otsutsuki duo, so no real complaints here.

So far, so good. We're nearing the finish to the movie plot and it seemingly suggests that it will wrap up come next chapter. Also, I wasn't expecting Momoshiki's monster to be so different from the movie. Props to Ikemoto for bringing in something original like this.

It is now confirmed by the still stuck-up pessimistic snobs at AnimeNewsNetwork that in April 2017, the Boruto manga will be adapted into an anime series.

The manga's almost done with the movie arc! Anyone else excited to go on to new content?

I... actually didn't know this was a thing until seeing this topic just now. Huh. The movie was pretty good - certainly the best writing anything Naruto-related has had in years, though I also liked the Gaiden thingy focusing on Sarada - so I'm a bit interested.

Chapter 8 is out.

My thoughts:

For the most part, this chapter consisted of showing off Momoshiki in his new form. Lots of good action drawings, including seeing Naruto and Sasuke's advanced techniques. Predictable, but still satisfying. I'm guessing that this arc will end either next chapter or on Chapter 10. Also, I will never not enjoy seeing that moron Katasuke getting what he deserves.

And we finally draw the Boruto movie arc to a close with a great ending. Well, sort of. There's still the film's epilogue, but I'm not sure if that will be covered. The ending chapter notes imply we'll jump straight into a new arc, and honestly, I don't think it's the one with Kawaki and Naruto dying and stuff. That seems like a a bit of a stretch considering that we literally just finished only one arc with Boruto as a kid and we could easily have a few more arcs after this, especially for the sake of the anime.

Well, this is definetly a sharp change to what happens in the original epilogue of the movie. So now Boruto has been granted a new ability/set of abilities by Momoshiki and is now wrapped up in some celestial mind game that he has planned for him. Definetly seems like something that might concern future bad guy Kawaki from the first chapter.

 

Still, that'll all probably be some ways away. For now: we see more of the Ino-Shika-Cho doing their thing (with Moegi as their leader which still kinda seems weird), possible rival alert in Shinki as well as maybe other conflicts that might pop up from him and his team, and now Team Konohamaru has a new mission.

 

All I can say is I'm really looking forward to what new stuff the manga has in store.

Well now that the author actually is moving on to new Naruto related content I may as well read it in WSJ every month. Yet another series for me to read. What is that now, My Hero Academia, Promised Neverland, Black Clover, One Piece AND Boruto? Wow, aren't I a lucky man?

Pretty much. It's no doubt tied to Momoshiki's destiny plot in some way. Maybe it'll act as the trigger for what he believes is the catastrophic event that Boruto will cause and then, I don't know, swear allegiance to him like Sasuke (kinda) did for Orochimaru.

 

Of course, this whole mark thing also brings up the question of how he unlocks the Byakugan given what we've seen in Chapter 1. Also, that Kawaki guy seems to be using the same powers as Boruto does in that same chapter so maybe he got a mark as well?

 

Maybe he's also apart of Momoshiki's scheme as a sort of inverse Will of Fire vs Curse of Hatred where he sets the two up to fight and end the entire shinobi world given what Kawaki was prattling on about.

 

That's pretty much all I can speculate on, we still have an entire month for the new stuff to kick in and it probably won't even all be addressed in favor of some more original material. It's kinda weird but also exciting how we've been given all this information in what might take even more time to develop near this manga's climax which, for all we know, might take as long as the original series.
