The last story update was very, very, very Interesting and made me think think of possible scenarios of ways we could relate this to Kh3 and the upcoming Keyblade War.
Firstly I'll provide a summary to serve as a hypothesis for a potential ' Heartless of the Fallen' scenario. Our Avatar encounters a new character called Skuld who appears to have come from the same faction as our missing friend Ephemera. In her dream Ephemera told her to seek out our Avatar and also added that the End is near. We then hear a loud explosion nearby and see 2 Foretellers in full combat; this is where a group of Heartless appear and start to demand for the Lux. Prompting a fight between them and us, the Dark Chirithy then reveals they were ex keyblade wielders that gave into the darkness...
Right; let me know explain my ' Heartless of the Fallen' situation ( Later becoming Seeekrs of Darkness) I believe that when a Keyblade wielders becomes a heartless then the ' Fallen wielder' maintains full consciousness and has free will to decide their actions rather than Heartless purely seeking out new hearts to capture. Although a brief defintion; I hope you get the basic drift.
Now if they willingly accept darkness then I'd wager that this makes them the amongst the truly first ' Seekers of Darkness'. This is my first small tie in to KH3- I don't believe these new enemies want the Lux to simply eradicate the light; however I think like Xehanort they want the Lux to create an Equilibrium between Light and Darkness.
However if one wanted to take another path and believe that our ' Seekers of Darkness' do wish to have the light themselves then we could relate this to the Keyblade War where the light was fought over and seeing as power is a key element to the fall of these wielders then this could explain their motivation.
Linking directly to the Keyblade War- I believe that these wielders belong to the same faction as those of the 6th apprentice. Just because they didn't become a foreteller we have no evidence to suggest that they didn't take on apprentices of their own and I believe what we fought were the ex apprentices of the 6th apprentice and that whilst the foretellers probably did clash; I believe these seekers of darkness also contributed to the war and perhaps we'll see a shift from the Foretellers clashing to the original ' Guardians of Light' ( foretellers; our avatar and the other apprentices) vs the 6th apprentice and the seekers of darkness.
Not only would this increase the importance of the 6th apprentice; but also directly relate to Kh3. I'd be willing to wager that the second keyblade war will play a similar way to the above. Also and this is the part which may seem controversial; what If either the 12 other seekers of darkness Morphed into what we saw in KH3 and that a fully norted person evolves to one of these beings? Or secondly what if during the final battle with Xehanort; he completely accepts the darkness and becomes a ' seeker of darkness' and this could act as an Almost ' God form' meaning he'd be hard to defeat and that the Lux gathered during CHI provides Sora with the strength to defeat him.
