Hey there, I'm a mod from the KHWiki. I just noticed this: http://unchainedx.wikia.com/wiki/Special:RecentChanges and wondered if you guys were already aware of it. It seems like a similar situation to when we split from Wikia. It's pretty frustrating having duplicated content on the internet (especially since wikia is above the KHUX Wiki in google searches), so I wanted to point this out in case there's anything you'd like to do in response. Thank you!

Fighting against Wikia takes work but it's by no means impossible and as painful as it was for KHWiki. They are a titan but do little to actually defend themselves.

The key is to keep the wikia site in check, KHWiki made the mistake of abandoning its community that was left behind (which was large), which amde them angry and allowed them to compete. Based on what I see here, there is no community left in the wikia site, which allows the independent wiki's staff to keep any new users joining there in check, while heavily suggesting them to move over. No one is interested in editing a wiki with a dead community.

Once the independent site is absolutely superior in everything, the wikia version just dies on its own, no one will bother rising it anymore when everyone links to the independent site.

You can't fight wikia by nuking the content, however, they will just bring it back. But because bringing the content back is all they do, they can still be fought against.

I wouldn't worry too much.

Actually, we're taking a different approach now. We're aiming to maintain our Wikia wiki and give it a different purpose to the actual KHWiki, which hosts all the information. However, I wouldn't suggest doing the same for the KHUX wiki, given how specialised a scope it already has.

Since there's no community at the KHUX Wikia right now, I think it's unlikely that anyone will ever decide to build one up if the KHUX wiki is already flourishing, so I wouldn't worry too much.

There has only been one edit on the wikia since Sannse's rollback (I heard about DC's nuke script, don't do it, they will eventually start banning/desysopping if this goes on and potentially put it for adoption), it doesn't really take much effort to kill it off. Just keep your eye on it and slow down any community growth, people will wisen up and move over. Doing something that causes Wikia to put it up for adoption is a recipe for a potential disaster.

@FM, that was always the approach, and there has been negotiations multiple times already, because KHWiki abandoned the wikian community, so they always strayed from the intended path. I often talked about this with DEXIII when he was in charge of Wikia site, and back then, the community absolutely hated KHWiki.

Basically, it's easy to fork over a small wiki, like KHUXWiki. A larger wiki takes much more work and effort because you have a big community to manage as well. With a big site, you can't just say "Okay, we are moving now, whoever wants to stay, good luck have fun", because Wikia is a titan and will always win search rankings as long as there is a competing community.

I never understood why, the hate sure wasn't mutual.A wiki needs an active community to thrive and the split sure hasn't helped that. That's what makes Sadako's work even more amazing, I'd probably gone crazy. If we keep up with the latest updates the Unchained wiki will surpass the Wikia eventually in the search rankings.

No, but the KHWiki looked down upon the wikia site back in the day. But, hakuna matata and kumbaya.

I say we just let it die and edit the new khux wiki. With all the promotion from The Keyhole, KHWiki, and KH13, people will figure out which site to go to.

EDIT: Looks like Wikia had a little to say on the subject. http://unchainedx.wikia.com/wiki/Thread:2368

Not...really. We wanted the editors to come join us and work with us, and were kind of frustrated that they didn't want to, at first. Once we came to a compromise that let everyone keep doing what they wanted, even that went away.

In any case...hey, guess what would not count as off-wikia advertisement? Soft redirecting everything to the most appropriate Keyhole article. It's still on wikia, so let's see Sannse try to argue how that isn't the best solution for everyone involved.

I don't think it's a good idea to involve Sannse in the discussion at all, that would just legitimise her view that the content on the KHUX Wikia is owned by Wikia and not the community that created it. I don't think there's anything to gain by arguing with her. The truth of the matter is that well over 99.9% of the content on the site is written by Sadako (Katie), Sadako is the undisputed leader of the site as it exists on Wikia, and if she wants to move off the site and as community leader, point people to the new site, I think she's well within her rights.

That said, if we push too hard then we might prompt them to ban / de-admin us, blacklist links to www.khunchainedx.com, and push for the Wikia to be adopted/supported, which I'm sure we don't want. It's interesting, I had put a notice up on the Wikia main page the day we launched the KHUX Wiki, and no one cared to remove it. Two weeks later I noticed that Google was still prioritising the Wikia site and so decided to write a script to edit every page to link to the KHUX Wiki, and it was only then that they started caring.

Anyway, I'm not sure what to do from here. I could edit the script I wrote to not remove the content on Wikia, but instead just add a more subtle notice to each page – but I don't think they'd like that. I could also make the script public, allow it to work with anyone's user account, and let the community decide what to do with it – though I haven't tested if admin privileges are necessary. We might have more luck waiting a couple of weeks and silently editing just the main page again, it depends on how closely they're keeping an eye on it now.

We might just have to ignore it and deal with it through working hard on the new site, but it's frustrating that even with the launch, initial work and promotion, that Google is still prioritising this dead Wikia.

Google search is broken AF. If we do enough promotion through our sites (Keyhole, KH13, KHWiki, etc.) we shouldn't have to worry about people not visiting the correct wiki.

We're not really sure how to handle KHx at the wiki yet, since only one of us (me) is able to play it, I'm the only one able to cover it, and I've mainly been doing it on the KHWiki fourm. So we don't have the articles to redirect those pages to.

Overall, I say just let the thing die. I commend everyone involved with working on the KHUx wikia, but I don't think anymore work should be done.

Wikia allowed Keyhole to condense their articles into tables containing the basic information.

Welcome to Wikia, they are hypocritical with that. Memory Alpha and Uncyclopedia both used to be independent wikis but then for some reason they went to Wikia (why they chose to give up their freedom, I have no idea), the original wikis were completely nuked, contrary to what Wikia does with forks from Wikia.

"Deleting a wikia

Wikias can only be closed by. If you would like to request a wikia's closure, please send a message to . However, closure is rare as they are community projects, so please provide as much information as possible in your request to explain why."

From http://community.wikia.com/wiki/Help:Delete

EDIT: The relevant page: http://unchainedx.wikia.com/wiki/Special:Contact/close-wiki

I'd send in the request.
