Not too excited for FFXV (Here's why)

Posted

With FFXV's Demos and playing them, i generally feel lukewarm about it. I like the engine, the story and such but the gameplay just aint my cup of tea.And not to mention with so much coming around and after it, I'd rather get more of early september and october's releases. Yokai Watch 2, Ace Attorney 6 are coming in september and some great stuff in october.

My biggest issue is that the gameplay wants to fast and hectic but tries to balance that by making you slow down with your run being limited and MP draining quick. It also feels clunky with the targeting system and Noctis zipping all over just gets me annoyed as I cant keep up with it.And Nier Automata just looks so better than FFXV, I'm willing to wait for that. I'll watch the movie though, hopefully it isn't spirits within.

I'm sorry for saying something rude but this reply sounds like some of the most corporate sellout comments I've seen in a while   So what if he didn't want to buy it?It's his choice,it's his money a

HOW DARE YOU NOT BE EXCITED FOR FFXV?!   On a serious note, that's fine. It's only natural that not everybody will like the game.

  • If they weren't called Final Fantasy games, I don't think I'd have as much of an issue as I do now. The new games are so different from the old ones that they don't feel like the same series. I starte

So you question whether I'm a fan of something or not because I don't mention one thing? That's pretty rude in and of itself. Breath of the Wild isn't just about going back to its roots, and honestly, it barely does that. Yes it's giving us a true open world again, but its breaking conventions that have stuck with the series for years upon years and introducing mechanics that have never been in a Zelda title before, such as cooking and gathering materials to make the meals necessary to replenish hearts. You don't even get hearts from grass anymore. You literally have to find and forage food to heal yourself. There are many things it is doing that make people say "this isn't a Zelda game" but it is. The same goes for games like Final Fantasy XV. You can say it isn't a Final Fantasy game, but it is and that's something people are just gonna have to deal with because it's appearing to be the direction the series is going in now. Modernization is always going to happen, most people won't like it, but even Square Enix knows that real-time action is more appealing today than something turn-based.Paper Mario isn't even appealing in its current state. Most people hate it and are more excited over the news that if they demand it, Nintendo will give them a HD remaster of Thousand-Year Door.I've personally never been interested in Persona, so I woun't say anything on that.

I don't mean to be rude but you're acting like Loz is going in a completely new direction. Crafting is kind of what people thought to be a good idea in Loz. And apparently adding new mechanics is breaking conventions? The mechanics aren't new and they've should been in the games around tp And ss, they're really just refining and adding more to it. And finding a heart in the grass was a weird thing anyway, it generally didn't make sense. And again you misunderstand, i dont care that theres modern stuff. These are not the same guys who made the first ten games. And I'm tired of them making action games or just games in general to just slap the FF brand. FF13 not a final fantasy game. FF agito/0 not a final fantasy game. FFXV not a final fantasy game. And only action games sell? FF13 still did good despite it getting panned. 6 million units was crazy so yeah turned based games still sell. And i was referring to paper Mario on 64 and Thousand year door. Havent checked the lastest one because it has been panned.

Pokemon.....despite being turn-based RPG....is still the best selling RPG franchise in history and each game almost reach 10 million units in sales

Bravely Default outsold the action oriented Lightning Returns heck square is making I Am Setsuna(which I'm actually excited for) because they saw the demand of a classic styled RPG after Bravely Default

Turn based combat is not outdated nor is it something that can't sell

It's just at some point the industry randomly decided it's not cool anymore(the same way they did for Survival Horror) despite being a tried n true formula since the days of Dungeons n Dragons and Ultima

Yeah in this case the companies were stupid and felt to change things up despite things being alright as they were.

It's because those companies focus-test their games on 11 year old and under boys and never tried to reach gaming communities for actual feedback

It's the same companies that preached Survivor Horror doesn't sell despite actually selling

The same companies that keeps trying to convince us that single player isn't needed despite a firetruckton of games that had single player only sometimes actually selling

the same companies that keeps telling us we don't want Megaman,Castlevania or the platforming genre in it's entirety when games like Mario,Shovel Knight,Kirby,Donkey Kong,Freedom Planet are proving otherwise

Nintendo actually tries for those kinds of games. But i dont see capcom actually in fault, kenji just showed that he is a piece of shit and wanted to milk megaman clean.

Boy don't even get me started on the pile of garbage that is Mighty No.9

Case in point though:Turn based combat is fine.It is it's own thing and just singling it in death cuz some corporate suits said it's "outdated" is simply absurd and no evidence so far suggest it's lack of selling capability

Just because Square failed with games like Final Fantasy XIII doesn't mean the genre is dead.......in fact it's alive and well if people are willing to look elsewhere instead of seeing Square is the only singular go-to company for RPGs

Agreed but I'm tired of pokemon.

It's fair that everyone has their own view of using the FF name on games that don't feel like FF anymore. But in the end, SE wants FF to remain one of the top video game series, and they probably will not achieve that by making the new FF games like the old ones. Yes, the truth is they don't have to do this. But they probably want their precious FF series to stay current and loved by more people, and to do that they must evolve.

I agree though, in cases like this they should probably just make new series. It is the same with CoD. They should of made a new series for all the futuristic stuff and kept CoD based modern or in the past. Not to mention they're trying to make it like Destiny which in my eyes defeats the whole purpose of having seperate series to cater to different audiences.

In the end FFXV will achieve more because of the FF name, so you can either support that or just give up on FF.

Not me though, been a fan for 25 years and still love it to death to this day xD

Then you should see it pisses people off because they only put the brand on there to sell units and thats it.

Well just the gameplay was mayby bad in FFXIII.

I found the music, characters and story very great.

Yes I know what you mean. Do you think that's enough reason not to play it though?

Never said that but there really meh and not buying might give them the message that they should bring back old ips and new ips.

Your opinion and that's fine

but I hate everything about Final Fantasy XIII that isn't the music or graphics

Not saying you said that just wanted your opinion :)

It definitely puts fans in a hard spot. They want to support FF but they don't know what's the best way to go about it.

Buying the remasters is a good way though :)

They have added a "Wait mode" mechanic where all that zipping around can be slowed down a lot now. It gives you time to think more and then react with a command.Personally I think wait mode is an excellent compromise for turn-based lovers. Eh, to each his own. Not that I'd be using Wait Mode myself since I like action -Nya~

It was already mentioned in the thread, Wait mode is just slow mo. And just things easier.

That's actually not the case originally FFXV was meant to be a spin-off title, it just so happened the idea was so grand, they decided to just make it a main entry into the series
