About that whole Police Brutality Issue.

Posted

When it comes to this police brutality issue, most people are either in group 1 or group 2.

Group 1

"BLACK LIVES MATTER, STOP KILLING INNOCENT BLACK PEOPLE!"

Group 2

"ALL LIVES MATTER! WHITE LIVES MATTER TOO!"

Either way you look at it, police are still killing innocent civilians and civilians are killing innocent police. Black on white, black on black, white on white, white on black, indian on white etc etc. People are still getting killed over nothing. Does race really need to be brought into things? The main issue is the relationship between the police and the citizens to my knowledge, but I don't live in the USA so I don't know all that much about that.

I think that police should be trained better and that civilians should respect the authority as well.

Race really has nothing to do with it, in the end its a culture problem.

I've studied Sociology and one of my units was Crime and Deviance. There's plenty of sociological evidence that demonstrates that Police are in fact systematically racist to Afro-Caribbeans and ethnic minorities in relation to criminality.

Which statistically makes sense. Black Americans are eight times more likely to commit a crime than any other race. They make up 13% of the population but commit half of the crime. These statistics don't condemn black people, but the environment and culture that the majority of black americans grow up in is filled with media that glorifies such behavior. Not at all a race issue, the real issue is the culture in today's society that glorifies the gang lifestyle.

Maybe some, but not all. I do agree that some police are racist to black people, but white people are getting killed over nothing too. Also, the violent retaliation factor just makes cops even more paranoid and scared of black people. Both sides have to learn to respect each other, there are plenty of idiots of all races who go around harassing cops.

To an extent, but that's entertainment and a lot of rappers are moving away from that as they've grown older. I've grown up with hip hop music and it's slowly moving away from that stuff.

This quote from brother Malcolm is very relevant today

I agree with your perspective because a lot of it can be proved, however, it can be equally argued that those statistics are socially constructed. I assume you know the term of "self-fulfilling prophecy? That's the process of assuming somebody will end up as a certain way because of the way you act to them or the way you speak to them (E.g: constantly telling the naughty boy in class that they're not going to go far in life with their behaviour only for them to end up as a delinquent!). Police search black people more than any other ethnic group because socially constructed statistics tell them that a black person is the most likely criminal, when in fact, It's the white working class male that is the most likely criminal because there's more working class white males in the west than working class black males.

Let me tell you what's truly criminal in Hip-Hop, Drizzy Drake ending Meek Mill's career lol!

It's a two way street. Respect needs to be earned, and someone has to stand up and be the bigger person. This endless violence is getting us nowhere.

Sadly, this is something that's becoming more of a problem, because well, both parties are at fault!  Not all police are heartless, and not all black people are violent, so really, both parts are at fault!  It's like you said, Shinobi!  Police should be disciplined better, and civilians should be more mindful of overstepping themselves, ya know? Both parties need to resolve their issues so that there's no more pointless fighting, ya know?

Where my nation has become politically correct, race became a factor. It shouldn't be, but it is. The police should be trained to not overreact and tone down the situation should they feel threatened, not just pull out the gun and scream like a banshee at the person they are dealing with. However, a few bad apples do NOT make everyone horrible. All life, born and unborn, matters because it came from God and is a gift. The police have been treated terribly and yet are expected to protect those that have bashed them because of their feeling of entitlement. The police are the ones who keep my nation from becoming like Venezuela, where society has crumbled and crime is uncontrollable.

Of course, the people pay taxes which pay the police's salaries, as well as cede a good portion of freedoms and powers to the police for the purpose of protection, so yes, they should feel entitled to that which they've paid for, and should also be entitled to speak up when they feel the service they are paying for has not been satisfactory.

When a farmer has bad apples they are removed from the bunch to prevent spoiling the bunch. Instead of making excuses, they should be held accountable for their ineptitude in the same way the citizens are held accountable. Until that imbalance is fixed there will never be a good relationship between law enforcement and the citizens. We want to talk about politically correct and yet America is so uncomfortable addressing racial discrimination, a cornerstone in our society since it's inception, that we'll diminish a fight for civil rights by overshadowing it with spectrum that is irrelevant to the movement itself.
