Unused Dream Drop Distance cutscenes found in Birth By Sleep

gepugg

YouTube user Keytotruth has found several unused cutscenes for Kingdom Hearts: Dream Drop Distance within the game files of Birth By Sleep.  You can view the playlist below.

These cutscenes show off footage that was seen in the first trailer for Dream Drop Distance, containing elements such as Heartless that didn't make it into the final game.

Keytotruth used areas such as Radiant Garden and the Keyblade Graveyard as substitutes for Twilight Town, as it is technically using Birth By Sleep's data.

Regarding the process of finding these cutscenes, Keytotruth said:

I've actually been behind getting this working for a very long time. I have other videos I made in the past where I sort of investigated Birth by Sleep in depth and found the leftover KH3D files.

However, recently I found that while the PSP version of the games didn't have any event (cutscene) to make them do anything, the 2.5 remaster did still have the event files. So, after working a bit around the differences between the 2.5 and the PSP versions of the cutscene files, I managed to sort of "insert" the 2.5 files into the PSP version to actually be able to execute those events.

These events mostly take place in deleted maps of BBSFM, like Traverse Town maps, but adding some hacks I made, I was able to play some of them in their respective maps.

It's interesting to get a look at what Dream Drop Distance could have originally been,  even if it never came to pass.

T-POSE TO ASSERT DOMINANCE

Also, I think you meant to say that Radiant Garden and Keyblade Graveyard were used as substitutes for Traverse Town, right?

It looks like they were going to actually expand on the Destiny Islands portion and the idea of Sora and Riku entering their dreams instead of making everything confusing from start to finish like in the actual game

I wonder what process Squre goes through when deciding to remove scenes.

Easy...

Tetsuya Nomura:

*Sees a scene that actually simplifies something.*
