  1. {Mariel: Isopolis; Final Stretch} Mariel glances back at Typhon as he laid out his thoughts on the hopefully final room. The idea of the dragon being a context clue rather than something hiding something else hadn’t really occurred to the Guardian Angel. “I’m a little rusty, but I know some Draconic.” She offered after the bugman was done speaking. “I can try some basic phrases and see if that gets a response. If that doesn’t show any signs of working, we can move to the ‘smash everything’ plan.” Working her jaw a few times, Mariel spoke a few simple words on Draconic, like “open” “unlock” and “knock knock”, in what a native speaker would likely consider a heavy accent.
  2. {Kira: Lanes Between; Shuttle Aft Section} Kira settled back as Aether put on the goggles. The sooner the boss got this lady out of her hair, the better. {VR Conference Call} The screen in the goggles flickered on when Aether hit the button. It was dark for a few moments before things brightened to reveal what looked to be an office. The desk was big and solidly built, with stacks of documents all over it. It wasn’t exactly messy, more giving the impressions of constant use. The walls were covered in shelves and file cabinets. In an office chair across the desk was a man. He had medium length dark hair brushed back, clean shaven, and dark blue eyes. He wore a dress shirt, a dark red vest, and a tie partially untied. He was studying a tablet for a moment before looking up. The general vibe he gave off was of an accountant trying to “Ah.” He said, putting down the tablet and give Aether a smile. “You must be the recruit Kira messaged me about. For this process, you may call me N. The goggles you are wearing is giving me a holographic projection of your upper body, so gestures will carry over. You can also say whatever as Kira is a trusted enough associate to hear what ever you have to say.” After this introduction, N sat back in his chair, his arms resting on the arm rests and his fingers intertwining at chin level. “So, why don’t you start with a little about yourself?” He said politely, his blue eyes watching Aether intently. {Simeon: Lanes Between; Shuttle cockpit} “Excellent!” Simeon said before turning back to the control. “Let’s start with stealth systems.” Hitting an important looking button, the young scientist engaged the shuttle’s cloaking device, causing the lights inside the shuttle to dim slightly and a barely noticeable hum to join the hum of the engines. A light turn and push on the control yoke had the vessel begin its decent into Radiant Garden’s atmosphere. “Okay, have you got everything?” Simeon asked, sparing a few glances at Aurion. “You’ve got the scanner. You’ve got the money. You have the communicat-oh! Your communicator has a map system built in. That should help you navigate down there. Well, is there anything else?”
  3. {Mariel: Isopolis; Final Stretch} "Sorry." Mariel said, sheathing Heaven's Flame and trying to help Typhon up. "We've got a simple room with a stained glass dragon modeled on the floor, somewhat suspicious about that. And the big news is a locked double door, which you hit. Nothing in the room seems to be hiding a key, except for maybe the dragon art." She paused while she kicked at the locked door with her foot. "I could probably shatter the glass or the door with my sonic scream, but you'll probably need to stick your fingers in your ears. But considering the tests so far, I'm not sure either brute force options is what is what is required." The Guardian Angel glanced back at the glass dragon decoration on the floor. It would have been better if one of the more scholarly volunteers had made it here instead of her. "Any of this giving you ideas?" She asked her campion.
  4. {Kira: lanes Between; Shuttle aft section} Kira leaned back with a slight smile on her face. "We'll see." She said, sounding amused. She brought up her left wrist and tapped out something on a screen. "Just have to see if you can fit you in." Kira continued in a casual tone. "He prefers to do these kind of interviews himself." The screen on her wrist flashed, causing a frown from the Gunslinger. "Though he's apparently sitting by the phone." Kira was silent for a few moments as she mulled over something. If the boss was this fast on the pick up, what was he expecting? She put the thought aside because that kind of speculation was nearly always fruitless. She leaned down to pull what looked like VR goggles from under her bench. She hit a few buttons on it then tossed them to Aether. "The boss is ready for a conference call, if you just want to get this over with." The Gunslinger said. "Just put those on and hit the switch on the side to start the call." {Simeon: Lanes Between; Shuttle Cockpit} Simeon turned to his console again and clicked through some files. "I'm not familiar with the place myself." He admitted. "But have some detailed notes from...associates." Finding the file he was looking for, the young scientist sped read through it for the details he needed. "Okay, geographically, it is quite different than Destiny Islands. At least where you are going to be dropped off, there are no ocean sized bodies of water. The capital is quite large, but doesn't have the glamour of the king's court. Seems like the nobles that live here are on the quiet side. City seems nice enough, and the local government isn't actively trying to oppress people. Where you need to set up the scanner is near the capital. Yet despite this proximity, it is left deserted. It use to be the way to a dark stronghold that was destroyed years ago, but people still avoid that area." The controls of the shuttle beeped as out the view port the swirling vortex of warp travel disappeared as the shuttle dropped into normal space. Ahead was the outline of Radiant Garden.
  5. {Mariel: Isopolis; Through Malchior Gate - First Straight, Second Right, Third Straight} Mariel was a little surprised by that she and Typhon seemed to be out of maze part of the trials. "Count your blessings." She murmured as she looked down at the stained glass dragon. Striding forward, the Guardian Angel examined the door. Key required, but not found. "What do we think?" She asked, turning to the bugman. "The key back in the labyrinth, or are we missing something in this room?" Turning back to the door, Mariel gives it a frown. "Could try to break it down, but that might spring a trap itself."
  6. {Mariel: Isopolis; Through Malchior Gate - First Straight, Second Right} "All who came are capable." Mariel said, trying to impart confidence in Jynn she didn't really feel herself. "They'll best whatever traps they come across." The moment the Guardian Angel saw the masked being she had her swords out and in a defensive stance. It faded away, which was almost worse. So, a game master? A ghost? What ever in the hells it was, it was certainly not a welcome sign. Now, if it had indicated a door, that might have been something. "I guess I'll take straight, then." Mariel responded after Jynn chose the straight path. Remembering Sifrei's precaution from before, Mariel carved a quick angelic rune in the wall. She spoke something in her native tongue, causing he rune to glow with holy magic. "Well, that should stay put in case we come this way again."
  7. All good. Heh, it's not like I've been super consistent myself.
  8. {Kira & Simeon: Lanes Between; Shuttle Aft Section} Kira let Aether's question hang in the air, her demeanor carefully neutral. She seemed to be assessing the assassin again. Her gaze only broke off when Simeon came in, when she gave him a brief glower before returning her gaze to Aether. Simeon paused in his tracks as he took in the scene. "Am I interrupting something-" he began. "No." Kira cut him off, still watching Aether. "Okay, I'm just gonna get-" "Fine." The Gunslinger said. Simeon quickly pulled out a bin from under the bench Aether was on and pulled out a disc like device before r place the bin. He then pulled a communicator from a bundle over Kira's head before scuttling back to the safety of the cockpit, closing the door behind him. Once it was closed, Kira leaned forward. "As you can tell with how me and the kid get along, I don't usually do partners or employees." She said, her voice seeming more serious than before. "But my boss is always looking for new talent. He might like you, but you are going to need an introduction. I can give it, but you got to be sure you want it. This isn't a one and done kind of job. Once he gets his hooks into you, you're in it for life." An odd smile crossed the Gunslinger's face. "Not to say it can't be fun and you get plenty of other compensation, but it isn't for the faint of heart. You sure you want to jump in on another situation like that?" {Simeon: Lanes Between; Shuttle Cockpit} Simeon entered a moment after Aurion dismissed his Keyblade, pausing for a couple of breathes after he made it into the cockpit. He wasn't sure what Kira was up to, but that was probably a good thing. He finally bucked himself up and moved to the pilot seat. "Alright, these are all you should need." The young scientist said, handing Aurion the disc and communicator. "Just get the scanner to Rising Falls, stick it someplace out of the way and hit the button on top." Suddenly remembering something, Simeon got out of his seat and patted his pockets. Finding what he was looking for, he pulled out a munnies pouch and pulled out about what Aurion made in 3 months at his delivery job. "This should work as a down payment." Simeon said, handing the munnies to th former delivery boy. "I probably won't be able to get back to you for a day or so, so be sure to find someplace to stay. I'll reimburse you expenses." He paused, looking a little worried. "That's gonna be enough for that, right?"
  9. {Mariel: Isopolis: Through Malchior Gate - Straight Path} Mariel quitely followed the others down the straight path, straining her senses to detect anything lurking. She hoped that whoever had designed this place went more into the animal themed death traps. Easier to deal with, in her experience. The next fork in the path was annoyingly expected. "I'll go right." Mariel volunteered. She didn't like the idea of splitting up at the beginning of this, but what mattered was that one of them made it to the heart of all this. Taking a breath, she emitted a short, low sonic scream down the right path, using a crude form of echolocation to glean as much information as she could before she fully committed.
  10. Me too. But I can’t fully discount the old “St. Ives” solution.
  11. {Mariel: Isopolis} Mariel followed Sifrei in expecting trouble. She found it in the worse form. "Riddles." She muttered with disdain under her breath. Give her foes to fight. Or some obvious death traps. But these little word games were just the worse. As others tried to puzzle out the meanings, the Guardian Angel moved to each door in turn, trying to catch any sense of what was beyond. She doubted she would find anything out, but maybe who ever designed this would turn out to be too clever for their own good. As she tried to gain a sense of what was beyond the doors, she half listened to the others debate riddles. She paused in her circuit to consider. "Gah! I hate riddles!" The Guardian Angel growled before going back to her investigation of the doors.
  12. {Mariel: Isopolis Shrine; Entrance} Mariel stood beside Odin, her eyes scanning Isopolis for anything of use. Sneaking into places was a skill she had picked up in the World Below, it not being seen as very important for Guardian Angel training. Still, this wasn't quite her element. On the bright side, others seemed to know what they were doing. At least, that's what she hoped for Dawson at least. Still, the others moved on the guard, making the diverter's exit strategy less problematic. The Guardian Angel kept back, watching the gates in case of reinforcements. Moving to help with the door, Mariel paused when Henry began sharing information. The news wasn't what she wanted to hear. "Great." She thought. "Even more perils inside." "Thanks for sharing." Mariel said to Henry, sounding a bit grim. "It's not like they've been considerate up to this point, so why start now?" Moving up, the Guardian Angel joined Sifrei and Helios at the gate. She moved to flank the Archangel, one or her swords drawn, ready to cut down anything that came out of the gate once opened.
  13. {Kira: Lanes Between; Shuttle aft section} "Stuck between a rock and a hard place." Kira noted as she rubbed her eyes with one hand. All this wasn't great news. Lots of uncertainty and it wasn't actually helping complete the primary mission. "So, what's your plan from here?" She asked, looking up at Aether. "Doesn't seem to be a lot of good options for you." {Simeon: Lanes Between; Shuttle cockpit} Simeon gave a relieved smile. "Good!" He said. "It shouldn't take long and I have enough of a budget to keep you on retainer for other surveys." Keying in the warp drive, the young scientist dialed the coordinates for Radiant Garden. "I'll be able to drop you near the falls, but you'll have to make part of the way on foot. You'll need a scanner and communicator. Which are..." Simeon's voice trailed off for a moment, then he sighed. "One sec." he said as he got up from his seat and headed to the door to the aft compartment he opened it and went for a bundle of equipment as Kira glowered at him.
  14. Maybe Phil LaMarr? The man has a good range to get the correct level of voice depth.
  15. Looking over everything, Mariel seems like that weird character that gets added in the last season that the runners hope will catch on. Haven’t thought that much on a voice actor, but Jennifer Hale is usually a good choice.
  16. {Mariel: Mystras; Raiden's Villa} Mariel was confused by all this. Here was Odin, feeling more like his old self than ever, yet something wasn't right. But she couldn't put her finger on it. And this talk of an attacker. A close friend. "Are you sure your attacker can be left at large and unknown?" The Guardian Angel asked her former charge. "With a dangerous task ahead, we don't need a danger from behind, O-...mi'lord." She had wanted to call him Odin there, yet had slid into thinking and referring to him as Raiden almost as soon as they had reunited. Why? And why did the name seem foreign now?
  17. {Kira: Lanes Between; Shuttle aft section} Kira nodded. Wetwork had its risks and sometimes the wrong person died. It was a shame not to talk with Aether's partner, but that bad feeling might have just been nerves. If these assassin's worked for who the gunslinger was guessing, she wanted to avoid direct involvement. It would probably be best to cut ties before Aether reported in. Aether changing subject back to Kira's own work caused a flash of annoyance in her eyes. Dumping her on the text world seemed like a better and better idea. "Don't know." The Gunslinger answered, poker faced. "They seem dangerous for sure, but...something tells me it's a personal reason. In the end, he didn't tell, and I didn't push." Kira adjusted in her seat, wanting to get off the topic of her employer. "So, any place in particular you want to be dropped off?" She asked. A thought occurred to her then that she wish hadn't. She had made it this far by not giving a damn about random strangers and now was a bad time to start, but... "And how forgiving is the organization you work for?" Kira asked, despite herself. "You gonna be alright if your friend bungled the job?" {Simeon: Lanes Between; Shuttle Cockpit} Simeon thought about Aurion's observation, then waggled his hands. "Kinda, sorta." He said. "While what I have in mind would be best done by an individual with a scientific background, it still works out to just have you do it. You see, on top of ferrying Kira around, I'm also tasked with..." The young scientist's voice dropped off as he consider whether he should be doing this. But he had already blabbed about other things, and this wouldn't give anything away. "Well, tasked with doing geological surveys." He continued. "I need to put one near a place called Rising Falls on Radiant Garden. All you have to do is go there and set up the device. Honestly, a delivery job if I've ever heard one. And if you are up for some traveling, I could pay you to go to other worlds to set up other devices. Or you could stay on Radient Garden. It seems to be a nice place."
  18. {Mariel: Mystras; Raiden's study} As Sifrei reported in, Mariel made another visual sweep of the room. This time, she picked out a familiar aura, one she hadn't expected. Her eyes locked on Soren, a cold look settling on her face. So, the demon had attached himself to a new master. How long would that last? She would have to talk to Raiden about this. Soren's power could be of help, but his loyalty was serious question. The Guardian Angel was pushing off the wall to make her way to the Lord of Mystras when a new comer came in. She settled back as Raiden excused himself and headed out with the new comer. "Something urgent..." Mariel thought. "New information on this Source we seek?" Baseless speculation wasn't going to do anything, so the angel went back to the other problem at hand. She watched Soren carefully for a few moments before making her way across the room to him. She paused briefly in front of him, then moved past to lean with her back against the wall behind him. "Got your priorities in order this time?" She asked coldly, her eyes sweeping the room again. It was around then that Mariel felt something...happen. It was a strange feeling, not something she had experienced before, but there was something...familiar in the wake? "Raiden..." she murmured before practically jumping away from the wall and dashing for the door. She felt another surge of energy, but this one felt starting out outside the villa. Throwing the door open, the Guardian Angel raced out, trying to pinpoint where Raiden was. She saw a blur that turned into Alastor, asking the same question that was on her mind. "This way!" Mariel called out to the Storm before sprinting after Raiden's aura.
  19. {Kira: Lanes Between; Rear section of Shuttle} Kira was a little surprised Aether opened up as much as she did. She had guessed about the assassin's affiliation, but the last bit about her contact having a strange feeling was very interesting. There might be more to this job than she had thought. "Know if your contact made it out of the palace before lock down?" The Gunslinger asked. {Simeon: Lanes Between; Shuttle Cockpit} Simeon seemed to relax a little after Aurion brushed off his blabbing. Maybe this could be fixed quick and Kira didn't need to know. "Okay." He said, focusing on the nav computer. "I think I can find a nice world to drop you off at." He flicked through several worlds before pausing at one set of coordinates. A thought occurred to the young scientist. "No." He thought. "I already blew it. I don't need to dig deeper. But..." "Hey" Simeon began before turning his seat to face Aurion. "You'll be looking for a job, right?"
  20. Yeah, i’ll keep an eye out. Looking like a good turn out.
  21. I’ve seen all types of rps on here over the years, from original works to games set in the world of various media. If you’ve got an idea, pitch it, and you’ll likely get some takers. Your idea of space pirates sounds fun. I’m looking forward to when it is ready.
  22. {Mariel: Mystras; Walking with Sifrei} “If the price is as simple as a life, I will gladly pay it with my own.” Mariel replied to Sifrei. “But there are plenty of ways to return the World Below and it’s people that we would find worse than their current fate. Plenty of Trickster Entities out there ready to twist your wishes.” The Guardian Angel’s mind flashed back to her friend Isael’s attempt to bring back a young prince he had failed to protect. A dijinn had brought the boy back, but as a mindless and ravenous husk. It had killed the rest of the royal family and Isael before Mariel had brought it down. “Still” She said, letting some of her own ache for this Source of All Life to truly work into her voice. “If there is a chance for this to work, we have to look into it.” Stopping at the doors to Raiden’s study, Mariel took a deep breath. She felt ashamed at how selfish she had been wallowing in her own misery when she could have been doing more. Sifrei’s kind words sparked a smile from her. “Thank you, Ophaniel.” She said, then chuckled. “Guardian Angels might not be blessed with the greatest intellects, but we have loyalty in spades.” It looked like Mariel wanted to say more, but she turned away and closed her eyes. In a swirl of light, her human guise melted away, revealing her true angelic form. Putting on a business expression, she opened the door to Raiden’s study. The red haired angel took a moment to scan the faces of the study, pausing to give Raiden a nod, before taking up a position next to the door, leaning against the wall.
  23. Hmm. Let’s try this to start with. Name: Victor Von Doom Age: 40s Gender: Male Superhero Name: Doom Race: Human Appearance: Personality: Despite attempting to turn over a new leaf, Victor Von Doom is still an arrogant and egotistical man. This is backed up by a brilliant mind and a will made of iron. He has a ruthless nature that still appears at times even with his change of heart. He is relentless and cunning. He can be quite patient, though his arrogance sometimes causes him to act too quickly. Bio: Victor Von Doom was one of the most dangerous villains on Earth at one time, battling the likes of the Fantastic Four, the Avengers, and others for bids at ultimate control and power. Within the past few years, Doom took part in a multiverse crisis where he was able to absorb divine level powers and become ruler over all creation. Despite this being the realization of all his designs and plans, Doom felt the victory to be unfulfilling, eventually even adding his bitter rival Mr Fantastic to fix the crisis. Returned to his own world with a healed face, Doom reconsidered his path, deciding that if his old villainous ways didn’t end in satisfaction, perhaps the opposite would. Abdicating as absolute ruler of Latveria, he began an alliance with Tony Stark to better benefit mankind. He even created his own iteration of an Iron Man suit when Stark was out of commission. His dealing with other heroes has been strained, but he has not wavered from his stated desire to turn over a new leaf. Universe/First Issue: Earth 616/Fantastic Four #5, 1962 Alliance(if any): None Powers and Abilities: Sorcery; as a candidate for the title of Sorcerer Supreme, Doom has a great deal of magical might, allowing him to cast a variety of spells, including barriers, magical blasts, teleportation, telekinesis, healing, and so on. Power Armor; a suit of armor that gives the wearer enhanced strength and durability. It is equipped with repulsers, magnetic control, cloaking tech, and flight capabilities. Doom himself is also blessed with a genius level intelligence, and has some mastery in martial arts. Extra Details(if any):While reformed, Doom shows little to no remorse for his past. Sometimes refers to himself in the third person.
  24. {Kira: Lanes Between; Rear section of Shuttle} Kira grunted her acknowledgement of Aether's answer. "I don't suppose it could be related to why you were really at the castle?" She asked. "And please don't play innocent. I've seen how you move and your get up. I don't even need details on why you were there. Just interested in my target." {Simeon: Lanes Between; Shuttle Cockpit} Simeon's grimace remained as his eyes darted around, trying to think of a way out of this. He had really stuck his foot in it this time. Seeing that his best course of action was the truth, he began to speak fast, his worlds tumbling over each other. "When you came on board, I scanned you and your friend. Standard procedure. You have enzymes and mutagens in your biology that are indicative of those who have adapted to living in places like the Realm of Darkness. I just assumed that's where you were from. I could be totally wrong about that." He lapsed into silence for an instant, then a thought struck him. "Not that being from there is bad." He clarified. "I've been there a few times and parts of it are quite aesthetically pleasing. Not to mention a treasure trove of unusual anomalies vital to my..." Trailing off, Simeon buried his face in his hands. "Kira's gonna kill me." Came his muffled voice.
