Hit count doesn't matter unless you're attacking an egg-type enemy, you want to look at the multiplier instead. There are better medals overall, although the 0 gauge cost is certainly something to keep in mind if you're doing a long-haul quest (eg. Coliseum upper rounds) or can't get APP to activate for some reason.

Having Riku be possessed by Xehanort again is just downright insulting to his character arc. The entire point of the Riku/Xehanort parallel is that they took different paths when the chips were down; Xehanort became consumed by the desire for power for its own sake, whereas Riku realised he had gone too far after Sora beat him (or rather, Riku-Ansem) down in Hollow Bastion and sacrificed himself for Kairi's sake; hence his caution in later games.

Only the west has this attitude of "animation = automatic kiddy fare".
