the first option is going to lead to a human made sculpture, assisted by AI for speed and not to help build it. the second is going to be slop because AI won't be able to accurately recreate anything from scratch like that lmfao

basically, it's like asking AI to find a specific needle in a haystack for you with its metal detector because it can comb through the stack in 5 minutes while you take 5 hours. then with that needle you can carefully hand build your 3D model of the mona lisa made out of needles. then you ask it to find the next needle for you versus, asking the AI to replicate the mona lisa in front of you so you have your own copy at home

so yeah, regardless of the situation with the person who decompiled the game, we now have a fully, 100% usable decompilation of Days

As I mentioned, they use established tools in the decomp scene to check 1-to-1 replication already, and that's how they get their progress reports. getting to 100% means that this tool has checked every single function in the game versus their decomp and everything outputs exactly how the game does. regardless of AI use, that means this decomp is 100% complete, and the next step is for folks to take this and build recomps/mods/remakes with this(hopefully without AI) the difference with decompilation and recomps is that decompilation mostly uses AI to again, pinpoint things quicker and find what they need to replicate. It's an entirely different situation than using GenAI to generate NEW code to build recomps, which is what we DONT want in this case

the thing with decompilation is that it's just trying to replicate 1-to-1 functions in a different language. there are tools that help you check that, so I'm pretty confident in this being a 100% decomp, AI or not. now, it's up to someone without AI to take that and make it playable again on PC and/or whatever else they decide, and that's the part that gets messy when AI is involved like you said, with things running into many mistakes

It depends on how much of it was decompiled by AI, if it was purely AI, it runs the risk of errors and mistakes that most "vibe-coded" projects have, even decomps. If this was ran alongside humans and was checked over and human verified, less of an issue as long as what was decompiled was proofread. It's a very grey area and truthfully I am not 100% confident in the depths of use. I don't want to make AI out to be the Boogeyman, but anything used with AI needs to be examined a little more closely
