Questions for Yoko Shimomura? (at the London Symphonic Fantasies concert)

Posted

Hey everyone.

The Symphonic Fantasies concert in London is coming up on the 6th of October (3 weeks today!). It will have orchestrated music from Square Enix titles such as Kingdom Hearts, Final Fantasy, Secret of Mana and Chrono Trigger/Chrono Cross. Definitely worth getting a ticket to see if you live in the UK! Click here for available tickets and prices!

Anyway, I writing to say as well as this concert there will also be a pre-conert talk with Yoko Shimomura; the brilliant composer behind the majority of the Kingdom Hearts soundtrack and the upcoming Final Fantasy XV! She will be discussing her influences through the years as well as answer some of the audience’s questions.

As I will be attending the concert and this pre-talk, I’m writing here to get some suggestions/ideas of questions to ask Yoko Shimomura, if I can get the opportunity to! I know there are obvious questions that relate to a certain upcoming title (don’t even need to mention it here on KH13!), but I’m looking for good questions about her career and work she’s done already. If a question is subtle and not too obvious about a future title (…) I could maybe use that.

Anyway message your ideas and thoughts below!

Wait, there's still tickets available? I live right next to London as well! Thanks Andrew!

As for a question, how about

"what themes do you find yourself repeating throughout the KH soundtrack?"

Aww man! I wish I could go!

@Andrew:

My Questions for Ms Shimomura:

1) What advice can you give to people who want to become successful video game musicians?

2) Which video game series that you had to work on gave you the most lasting impression?

3) How do you feel the music in the Kingdom Hearts series has grown?

4) Did you draw any inspiration from the Kingdom Hearts series when composing for Final Fantasy XV?

Actually I have heaps I want to ask lolol, but I reckon I had to limit them down to important questions rather than asking dumb questions

1. What were the difference between Kingdom Hearts and Final Fantasy XV in terms of the variety of musical styles?

2. Out of all the games that you have worked on, which one is your favorite and made a lasting impression on yourself?

3. How do you spend time relaxing or finding inspiration in writing music?

Do you have an all time favorite Music Piece from all the games that you worked on?

Fixed typo.

Oooh I'm glad i saw this, because Yoko is my favorite musician right now, and getting some feedback from her would be amazing.

1) I'd love to know if she would have any advice for aspiring young musicians, as in how to keep pushing forward and knowing where to head next, and how she feels about her work inspiring her fans to pursue musical careers.

2) Has she heard about Project Destati, and how does she feel about fanmade arrangements and such large groups of people coming together to celebrate her music?

I was gonna ask you to give her a hug but I don't think that's very viable, these two questions are enough for me :)

1) When composing the field and battle music for each Disney world featuring in the series, did you watch the films in order to get the right feeling for each track?

2) Apart from (possibly) the films, is there any particular place you draw inspiration from?

3) Can you name some tracks you have struggled especially hard to compose, or some that flowed really naturally?

4) Listening to the soundtracks for each game, one can notice that some tracks are connected to others (in terms of story and relationships between the characters). Do you find it easier to elaborate on a previous piece, or to compose a new one from scratch?

It'd be really cool if one of my questions is chosen for the pre-concert talk... I can hardly wait for the day!! *_____*

Hello Andrew, I´m Kevin and I´m new on the KH Forum. Once I saw this post, I decided to join in to bring my thoughts and opinions about Kingdom Hearts.

There are a few questions I would like to be answered by Yoko "Goddess of Videogame Music" Shimomura  .

1) Many of my friends from Spain and Latin America love the music you composed for the Kingdom Hearts saga, and I'm no exception. Would you agree to take part on a Kingdom Hearts Music Tour for Spain and Latin America?

2) Do you like any certain Latin musical genre like salsa, mariachi or similar?

By the moment I can't think of another question  I'm afraid I won't come to the World Tour , but I'm hoping for some video release like the one from Final Fantasy XV at Abbey Road Studios  .

Thank you for reading & greetings from Mexico .

What is your greatest work of music you love the most and do you see yourself continuing to create fablulous music for titles such as kingdom hearts and final fantasy, in new ways?

28@@ you be creating an all new theme for kingdom hearts 3?
