Since the whole "Ventus is a dandelion" theory emerged, and that he has something to do with Unchained X, could he actually be from the past instead of the current time-line?

 

Hear me out, We don't know anything about his past or where/when he was born, he could had been best friends with Skuld, Ephemera and player, something happened after the war and some how Ven could had got trapped in the realm of darkness? for years and years maybe since time flows way slower than normal, then Master Xehanort found him?

 

he could had caused something to make Ventus lose his memories of his "past life"?

technically he's from the past because he's just Roxas' character model from KH2.

seriously though, yea i could see the Realm of Darkness being used as an excuse here. the "time moves differently here" explanation could easily hand-wave the huge jump forward in time from X to BBS.

I personally thought it would be clever if your avatar actually was Ventus. You can make the player a girl or guy, but in the end anything that the player does or witness is what is happening to Ventus.

I've been wondering that myself, and while I'm not completely sold on the idea yet since we haven't even seen anything to hint at Ven's presence in the game apart from some Nomura artwork, I have been toying with the idea that maybe Ven might be the Player themselves. Like maybe Chirithy's presence as a Dreameater suggests that we're in the Realm of Sleep and while we can make our Player look however we want, in the end it's just Ven dreaming up a different persona of himself, experiencing everything we experience. But I realize that that's kind of far fetched, which is why I'm not entirely convinced of it yet. I'm almost willing to believe that he has some other involvement in all of this, just what that could be though I don't have an idea of right now.

One thing that comes to mind is if Ventus is from the past during the first Keyblade war, he may have had the original x-blade since Xehanort tried to get Ventus to produce one.

My personal hypothesis is that Ventus visits the unchained worlds during the time he is asleep in Castle Oblivion. That way it kinda gives him purpose and something to do rather than be a complete useless character who's been asleep for >10 years.

Yes, it is totally plausible for Ventus to have been in the Realm Of Darkness until Xehanort found him!  There's so much about Ventus we don't know, and I can't wait to see what will be revealed to us! With current events standing as they are, it'll be interesting to see where Ventus stands in all this!

I would have considered this too, and it's not out of the realm of possibilities... however, the Ventus present in X's third anniversary artwork depicts him without the armor piece provided by Eraqus. Plus, his hair is stylised in a more tamed manner. I genuinely do feel as though that Ventus originated in the X era only to end up in the Birth by Sleep era.

That's an intelligent way to think about it, plus, it'd fix the retcon of Xehanort saying that Ventus produces the Keyblade in Birth by Sleep. He may have realised that Ventus was from the X era and expected him to re-create it, when in reality, it was more complex than that and he didn't realise it at the time.

I'd love a plot twist like that. It'd be one of the few instances where a video game uses the "false protagonist" trope.
