So I was wondering, when Ventus tells people to call him Ven instead of Ventus, does it really matter? No other KH characters have had their name shortened. So I'm not really sure why they decided to do that with Ven's name.

Might be something, might not. Just sayin'.

they probably wanted to change it up a bit give the character a little more personality like how leon has leon and squal

I think it's because Ventus is just too long, so they decided to make it smaller. They would have done it for the other characters too, but they already had small names, except for names like Xehanort, but he's old, so he likes long names

The Leon Squall thing is back story, not a nickname.

The reason Ven is shortened is because it sounds more like a proper name, many people abridge multi-syllable names to smaller variants.

"I'm Ventus, but you can call me Ven" is the new "Sora, Donald, Goofy!" xD

But no seriously, overall it doesn't matter; that's just how he introduces himself.

^ what he said

everything is about character :D

Ventus is a kid, ergo he wouldn't want to use the long, formal name, and shortens it to Ven. Maybe?

He's not the only person to have a name shortened because squall lionheart has his name shortened to Leon

cuz the VAs are lazy

I don't like people calling me my lonng name too xD (but I have this habit though...)

What SHE said :P

And Squall did not shorten his name, he changed it completely out of shame.

it doesnt really matter but i think its just his wa of saying "my name is too long and i like ven better" that and it probly easier to say i mean c'mon try saying "ventus" fifty times in a day with out stuttering i know i cant do it.

My god this is irrelevant. Who cares honestly? No offence but it doesn't make a difference what they call him.

What i dont know about ventus is one of the first interviews with Nomura for BBS. He said the game revolved around finding out ven's true identity (which didn't change in terms of the story), but he said that ven is short for something MUCH longer. How is three letters any longer of a name?

It's all based on the character. We aren't going to call Vanitas Van or something like that, he's our enemy, enemies don't get cool nicknames xD. Someone telling you to call them by a nickname of sorts that they have generally is a sign of friendship. It's like with Riku and Mickey, they became friends and King Mickey told Riku he could call him Mickey instead of "Your Majesty."

Nyeh, Katakana probably xD

there's like, 7 letters (if you count the ten ten in "Ve") in his Katakana name. It was shortened to 4 letters (if you count the ten ten in "Ve")

Also it could take a longer time (well, maybe a little longer) to program his name into the game (the jap game has the sentence of what the chara said below like KH2)

Its just like Benjamin is Ben. :P
