Well it is. It's a retcon presented as a plot twist. But it's so ridiculous of a twist that it feels like a retcon

That's in the definition of retcon

It goes against a lot of what was told to us about Ansem

"typically used to facilitate a dramatic plot shift or account for an inconsistency."

It is therefore a retcon

Well it's not a plot shift it's a twist

There are some retcons that are much more organic than others

A plot shift is like a shift of tone or direction

Retcons aren't inherently a bad thing

Now that's semantics I think lol

Don't mis assume me now
