Well you play as roxas, the story in general focuses on roxas and xion

The movie shows that to an extent

let take it to an extent. roxas has sora's memories stored in him and powers then when xion come along she dipped into that and steal it from him but they shared the keyblade unknowningly to roxas then a year passed close to when she die
