DO YOU KNOW WHAT SPY FOX WENT THROUGH FOR YOU TO GET THAT MILK

oh wait i thought this was general

It appears we’ve entered the worldline where kh3 never existed and replaced general chat

What if I wasn’t done talking kh u meanie :PepeHands:

Maybe now I can continue dishing out text walls like a senile old man

I’m gonna go get some food and a shower anyways so feel free to drop those paragraphs (:

So, where was I

Games post-BBS felt much more based on objective outcomes often devoid of emotional attachment, which makes the whimsical and often nonsensical approach to storytelling more aggravating, since it's hard to build a strong objective-oriented, hard-plot focused narrative on ground with more holes than Swiss cheese.

In my mind the best example would be the search for the power of Waking. Since the main reason for acquiring it is "waking people whose hearts are asleep", there is lack of emotional investment in that since it's a fairly nebulous concept without tangeable means of acquirement beyond wishy washy "believe with all my heart" lines and ultimately almost expecting Sora to learn it by accident. Since it is a hard objective, "get x power", the lack of information regarding its obtainment has a great chance of annoying the player.

I mean there’s even lines from yen sid, the guy who’s supposed to guide us in the right direction basically just saying nothing more then “when you need shit to happen it will” but then we still go around for “ like, 12 hours doing firetruck all

Why the "phineYES", 2 Quid is Good pain

Basically, Slash

And it also applies to other plot points in the game. Xehanort wants to recreate the Keyblade War and create balance between light and darkness (at least that's what we though at that moment), and Sora doesn't exactly have any ulterior motivations to stop it beyond it being the right thing to do because he's a hero.

So his motivation is very impersonal instead of personal. Not a lot of personal emotional investment from the characters.

Sora’s only personal motivation in this whole thing consists of “roxas” of which he basically goes “alright I’ll put you on the back burner for now and hope for the best”

What's interesting is that you don't necessarily have to build a story solely on emotional conflict. There are stories that are built on ideological conflict, with two characters with distinct ideologies fighting over who's right. And that can be very fun to see play out on a screen, but that's not exactly what happens. Sora and MX barely interact, so they don't have any kind of argument or banter before Xehanort gets defeated that goes beyond the basic "I'm going to stop you because you are wrong".

> Sora’s only personal motivation in this whole thing consists of “roxas” of which he basically goes “alright I’ll put you on the back burner for now and hope for the best”
To be fair Ienzo told him he was going to research the situation but didn't really come up with anything substantial until Even decided to help him with the replicas.

Sora believed in his friends but turns out his friends can't do anything until the plot demands it ?

Yeah I mean, people can say whatever they want when the inevitable comparison comes up with the other 2 main sora games, but he has always had more interaction with the main baddy in the past in contrast to MX

I like your comment because nowadays comparisons between the games have pretty often been eye-rolling.

Most of the time it’s eye rolling in my experience because people just get flustered that you would compare anything because it’s as if we’re not talking about the same series or something :animeSip:

Because "both sides" of the argument often use it incorrectly I feel. Either KH3 didn't do this thing that other game did which makes it lesser, or you can't criticize anything KH3 did because that other game also did this.

There are comparisons which are valid but dare I say that there are comparisons that simply don't work.

Like someone arguing that KH2 was great and it had FF characters, therefore the reason KH3 isn't great is because they don't have those.

There's a lot more to it than that, haha.

Well it can never be as surface level as that while expecting to win somebody over or convince them of anything seasalt_shinji
