but it's one of the natures of hardware + software that even if you change a single component, the product can fail on Version B even tho one thing is different from version A

yeah the PS2 to PS1 used an interesting reading system. one that didnt allow you to save due to the way mem cards were formatted but it was an early form of virtually emulating the PS1

as for Xbox, they probably are doing it the way modern Microsoft is going for and trying to be globally compatible
