You know what really stands out to me about photo realistic games that makes me think well never really achieve full realism

Is backgrounds.

Environments can have cool lighting and detail

But you can tell it's a massive model with textures

They need to start fixing Character models though

I feel like we've already reached a fairly realistic style of environment and background

But people romanticize reality so much that it's as though technology can never keep up

I feel like games have already surpassed reality in terms of graphical quality

They still haven’t figured how to make human characters look and act natural

yeah human characters are still a little behind, but backgrounds and environments are pretty good

i swear games are gonna be 200gb soon and thats like the next base cod game

Don’t get me wrong, it’s probably really hard to achieve, but....

Like UE5 was all impressive with efx and backgrounds but goddam they need to focus on characters too because they have become increasingly worse with the more realistic games try to be. Especially ones with large campaigns

UE is more for cartoony looking games tbh and the one that ive seen nicely done so far is FF7R

You can have realistic details with a cartoonish style (KH3)

At least the current gen has opted for more colourful releases a lot more now cause they realise it's easier to get a more ageless game that way.
