I have an interesting fact about Kingdom Hearts and Final Fantasy.

Before Kingdom Hearts was released, Squaresoft opened a film studio called Square Pictures, who released one of the earliest motion capture CGI animation films, Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within with Sony Pictures in 2001. Despite the film's marketing, the film was a very big loss for Squaresoft as the film flopped at the box office for how the film didn't have much connections to Final Fantasy.

The Spirits Within caused a big financial loss for Squaresoft so they delayed their merger with Enix to 2003. The film also almost destroyed the reputation of Final Fantasy. But however, a year later, Kingdom Hearts was released. Kingdom Hearts was a very successful game and was marketed heavily and has been said to be one of the best video games of 2002. Kingdom Hearts sold very well in video game retailers and online and made Squaresoft the money back that they lost from The Spirits Within.

To think that Kingdom Hearts, an unlikely crossover of Disney and Final Fantasy has saved a company from their downfall and the reputation of Final Fantasy financially is truly magical. A year after, Squaresoft successfully merged with Enix to form the company we know today as Square Enix.

Another interesting fact was Nomura had inspiration from when he visited Disney's Animal Kingdom, but also didn't have much faith in the project at first, he literally thought it was going to be a train wreck and would ultimately fail, a financial disaster. But in the end results turned out different and that's how we got the franchise that we know today
