Been replaying rebirth and mostly just been skipping the cutscenes, but I have watched a few just to see if its as good or bad as I remember

And goddamn the tonal dissonance with Dyne is fucking insane

You go from a pretty damn great scene between him and Barret to then fighting a guy spanking his own ass in a fight

Like I complained about it when it came out too but its so much worse a second time through

Gold Sauce opening is still peak tho

thats just how action games work. once you have control over the character, feelings dont matter to them anymore

I don't know what my comment has to do with being an action game, its just about direction

and cutscene direction in general is 10/10

FF7 fans will defend this scene with "FF7 has always been quirky and weird" but that's just complete fucking bullshit in this scene. It's the most tone deaf scene in any Final Fantasy game. The Dyne scene in Rebirth is among my top 3 worst scenes in the entire franchise

i was truly looking forward to that whole sequence too

it did still get me in my feels as a father of a daughter about marlenes age

but it didn't land the way i wanted it to

It got almost everything right

I still think him dying in a hail of bullets is a lame censorship choice

idk why Palmer gets even so much screentime. he's a meme character with the only purpose in the story to get driven over by a truck

But yeah even then right up until Barret screams it does it well

It doesn't even stop at Palmer

Immediately after that fight Dio comes in flexing his muscles

And then you have that awful minigame with Barret

Palmer is coincidentally also the worst written character out of all the Shinra characters. I'd consider President Shinra, Rufus, Heidegger, Scarlet and Reeve all to be better in the Remake than the og
