of the 5 current weapon types, catalyst most closely fills the mage role. however, not every catalyst behaves the same. one of the starter ones does your standard "shoot electricity magic" stuff, but another early one lobs bombs made of fire. then there was a more recent one that eschewed all of that and went for "i'm gonna be a fist-fighter who enhances all of my punches with wind magic"
