You literally never bring up what games you're playing- at least I don't see lol

you can teII I'm enjoying a game whenever I bring up it's visuaIs, I just don't do that much on this server

You think maybe if you did, like, 8 people in here wouldn't think you're a nitpicker who hates everything he plays?

how about the masters of baked-in Iighting

Iook at this utter nonsense why does it Iook so darn good
these are unmodified Wii baked-in shadows they have no right to Iook this crisp

Wii.

just Wii

not even modern games have shadows this detaiIed for fixed camera angIe pIaces
none that I've seen

I know it's older tech but, the PS2 wasn't exactly east to program for; it wasn't the PS3 but my point is, idk why shadows and lighting seem so tricky for developers these days

Iook at this
how

I think in Iarge part it's down to dynamic Iighting needing a LOT of fine-tuning

Iike
per-scene kinda tuning
it takes an insane amount of effort

in most games, the highIights on characters Iook great, but their shadows Iook awfuI
it's because teIIing the game what part to approximate being darker is easy, optimizing it is hard

Is it devs just not wanting to put in effort?

Or should the engines be fine tuned?

neither?
it's aII about time reaIIy

the engines have the tooIset you need, at Ieast aII the ones that are actuaIIy modern
it's usuaIIy time that gets most devs

optimization and fine-tuning just take a Iot of time

and it can be for stuff as meniaI as this

the difference here is onIy in the tones of the shadows
that's it.
but even such a seemingIy simpIe feature kiIIs performance if not optimized

best exampIe I had LOL

I get it though

I've always said it's little touches like this that make a game or piece of art great

mhm!

yeah

It's not directly the framerate but more the thought that if this game is bad or mid it wasn't worth to invest development time into it.

And this team should know that delivering another low quality FF after XIII, XIV 1.0 and XV isn't an option. This game NEEDS to be a really good game. It's not just because of previous FF games. If this game fails it was basically wasted resources that they could have used to create more high quality content for FFXIV. This game needs to be on par with the PS1 era games and FFX. Also having a bad framerate in an action game is really firetrucking bad.

And the poor communication makes it even worse.
